Going to buy a T2i soon, Need advice!!!! +k for help

Okay NS, time too step up from the GoPro to a mature camera
My parents have been wanting to get a new, SLR or DSLR, and i having been looking around a lot for a new one and everywhere search i come out with one answer = T2i

Okay here is my troubles
i go to the camera store with my father, cuz he will agree to buy most of it
The Camera Store says i can get a T2i w/ 18-55 kit for $846.76
or just the T2i body for $735

I will be using this mainly for HD filming(skiing) and secondly for photography, and most people i talk to say the 18-55 stock lens is shitty and will make my videos and shots look like shit

then i have people saying it is a standard starter lens that will shoot HD pretty good

so here really what i ponder, should i spend my money for the T2i with 18-55 or just buy the body and then buy another lens.

I am going to Mt Hood is 24 days so i really want it before then, and the cheaper the better

Please anybody i need reviews and help,

You guys need to stop refering to the quality of your video as "HD", hd= frame size, 1280x720 or 1980x1080, it has nothing to do with quality, my fucking camera phone shoots "HD" but the quality sucks.

Yeah but he asked if it will shoot HD well, which actually kinda makes sense. an iphone and an HVX both shoot 720p. But because the quality of the hvx footage is much higher, i guess you could say that it shoots HD "better" than an iphone. i would never phrase it that way, but it does kinda make sense.

op, the kit lens is ok. if you have money to buy the tamron 17-50 f/2.8, do that instead. but if you can't afford it right now, the 18-55 kit lens will hold you over until then. when i bought a T2i, i wasn't able to buy the body only even though I wanted to. but i was actually pretty surprised by how good the kit lens was. it's still a shitty lens, but it does an OK job.

pretty much new, guy bought it,opened it and brought it to a baseball game

check out refurbished, craigslist, and i have seen some go for good deals on the fred miranda b/s/t forum

or $640 form the b&h used store

thanks dude, plus k, i will look up the lens you toldd me to get, and also what would make more sense, a RODE mic or a tripod?

In my opinion the tripod would be a better choice. Espically if you're going to be using the camera for a good amount of photos. You want better stabilization before better audio imo.

tripod for sure. and make sure you put a lot of time into researching and finding a good one. don't be afraid to drop a lot of money on one either. i know it's not fun to spend a lot on a tripod because it's just a tripod, but it will be one of the most important investments you will make.

I used the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non vc with 3 canon L lens's last weekend for a short film.  The 24 1.4, 50 1.2, and 100 2.8
I really can't belive how well they matched up together.  That Tamron is an amazing lens for the price!

about $400, which is a great price. it has a much more solid build quality, better glass, faster (f/2.8 will make it better in low light and it will have a shallower depth of field), and it has a fixed aperture (so the aperture won't change as you zoom).

BTW, on the canon store you can get a body for $560 refurbished or with the kit for $640 refurbished. (online)

well i am dealing with one of the best camera stores in calgary, The Camera Store, so i would be dealing with them, and if i have any troubles i can take it to them, i only buy clothes off the interweb, not hundred $ electronics i could easily fuck up on

The cheapest 50mm is like $125 on amazon. Canon has 3 different 50mm.

the 50mm is great (i have the Canon 50mm f/1.4 myself), but i really would not want it as my only lens. you should def invest in the 50mm f/1.8, but also get a lens like the 17-50mm f/2.8. i find myself using my canon 17-55mm f/2.8 much more than my 50mm. you have to take into account that on a crop sensor the 50mm is going to act like an 80mm, which is pretty tight for many situations.
