Who else hopes the debt ceiling is NOT raised?

i think the people who oppose the debt ceiling being raised will be the SAVIORS of america and they will go down in history as being the people who stopped americas holocaust of debt before it completely destroys us. If the debt ceiling is not raised, then we will hit it, and we will be forced to stop the process of destroying america. So I hope more than anything that the republicans stay strong and do not raise the debt  ceiling like the democrats want them to.

Mr Obama has more hatred inside of him than anybody i have ever seen. He wants to destroy the wealth of those who have built our country, and he wants to scare away any people who want to choose america as a place to store their wealth safely. He is really the worst thing to happen to our country in a very long time

you realize if the debt ceiling isn't raised that America defaults on it's loans right? and you do realize that means everybody is FUCKED right? the debt ceiling has to be raised, and it will be raised. the only reason it's even an debate is because republicans are using it as a way of leveraging more tax cuts into law. get learned.

Ya know you could all up in fucking arms about Obama being a Marxist fucker of baby skulls or you could just accept the fact that he is no a terrorist communist and that even if he was you are a nobody that doesn't have two shits of a say about anything past the general election. Sure you can go to protests etc but do you really think your gonna change anything. not being pessimistic just saying you could save yourself a shit ton of stress just by checking out and saying whatever happens happens. i believe that everything will eventually work out for the better good. the problem was obama was voted in because he was young, black, hip whatever you would like to call it.On the way to school i listen to some radio talk shows and constantly people would be like oh i like obama idk why becasue hes fucking black or because he plays basketball. Obama is a joke and unfortunatly the population is so uneducated for the most part that they voted him in becasue bush did a bad job. When in reality he really didn't do that bad of a job just got a lot of criticism for a war that america wanted to start in the first place.

someone's been paying attention to their fox news.

the reason the debt ceiling is an issue is because the budget that was just passed would bring our national debt over the ~$14 trillion ceiling. If we go past that level of debt without raising the ceiling (probably in august), the gov. can not continue funding the programs that were allocated money in the budget. thats why it's called a ceiling, you can't keep spending money past that point without raising it.

but the ceiling IS going to be raised, republicans in the senate are counting on it. I'm not taking a side, i'm just saying that the republicans want to pass the debt ceiling, one that allows them to "cut spending" in the budget. while the the budget was being passed a few weeks ago, much to the protest of senate republicans, they were laughing behind their hands, knowing that the democrats would ultimately need to get their to approval to raise the ceiling. The democrats are going to have to compromise. the entire situation has been extremely well played by the GOP.

i'm not trying to debate the direction we should take with our national debt. Whether spending is cut or kept at it's current levels is not what i'm talking about. all i'm saying is that both parties want the ceiling raised, just on their own terms. to say that the GOP isn't counting on raising the ceiling is stupid, it's their bargining chip, and they're going to use it.




on a completely unrelated note, i will say it's refreshing to actually debate politics on NS somewhat rationally. so even though i don't agree with you, kudos.

It amazes me how most people assume that we will be able to borrow money forever. Do you know how hard it is to cut a $2 trillion deficit and make it a surplus? Especially in this political climate where Congress is only looking to next week or next month rather than years down the line.

you have to realize that the majority of the electorate doesn't vote on issue-based opinions. they vote for the most charismatic, most like-able, most eloquent candidate. Obama flat-out smashed McCain in the election, not because he was black, because he killed it in every speech, debate, or campaign event. While the minority vote was abnormally high, Obama still would have won without a significant portion of that vote. Also, Obama killed it with the young people as well. 2008 was a perfect storm for Democrats, the country was in the onset of a recession, in the voters eyes, caused by a Republican regime. In times of fiscal struggle, the country leans on Democratic rule, thus Obama prevailed. Not directly because of race, not because he can dunk, but because people actually fucking like him.

alright, you are correct. it is clear what side i'm on. but i wasn't attempting to debate the national debt or make a post about what political side i come down on. i was reacting to a post by a guy who said that those who oppose the debt ceiling being raised will be seen as saviors.

my intention was to point out that even the republicans who are currently opposing the ceiling being raised aren't actually going to stop the ceiling from eventually being raised, and are using it as a way to force spending cuts. and while "everybody is FUCKED" may have been a crude way to say it, i don't think i'm wrong in saying that America defaulting on it's loans would not be constructive to our economy.

well that's the problem isn't it? no one knows exactly what will happen if it isn't raised. all we have is the opinions of politicians, analysts, and economists. where you choose to put your faith is up to you, but at this point i agree with what i'm hearing from Paul Krugman (Nobel Prize in Economics), the managing director at JPMorgan Chase, the chairman of the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee and yes, your favorite, Timothy Geithner. i form my opinions from analyzing what i hear and read, and clearly we use different sources. i'm just a teenager typing his opinion though, so you don't have agree with me.
