If people avoided marriage early in relationships these issues would drastically decrease. I have a buddy who is 24 and just broke up with his girl after 5 years. some people get married after less than a year. The issue we have is that it is becoming socially accepted to divorce. If it seems normal then people won't mind divorcing. Bottom line is marriage is supposed to be a lifelong commitment and over 50% of marraiges end in divorce.Tell me how that makes sense.

very dumb response there. Gay marriage happens because some people just happen to be born gay. theres a lot of ignorance on the topic of whether you are born that way, or if you choose to be; And i will inform you that YES, you are BORN with it. And if two people are born in a way that makes them love eachother, then let them go at it! Then, gay marriage makes complete sense. Good try though =)

This is kinda off topic, but seeing as we are talking about divorce in here as well, its kinda on topic. Divorce is fucked up. It should never happen. I don't think that it will increase though, at least not in our generation. So many kids today have divorced parents and I don't think any of them are happy about it. Do you think that any of these kids of divorced parents want to get a divorce later on in life? No. I sure as hell don't want to.

the government should no longer grant "marriage" to anyone. a legal partnership between 2 consenting adults.

you cant force your garden variety church down the street to "marry" tom and harry, but the government simply needs to GTFO.

although im not sure how i feel about getting tax breaks for married people or this new "partnership" i would support it for the reasons of medical decisions, and things of that nature.

Unfortunately this logic hasn't proven true. It's essentially the same as kids who grow up under the influence of parents that suffer from addictions of all sorts or are criminals in general. Children are highly impressionable and parents are their main influence, so you will typically follow in their footsteps. This is also why children that grow up in cities and witness the "thug life" fall right into that cycle. Think about AIDS. One guy fucked a monkey, contracted the disease and then spread it to others. These people in turn spread it to others and the chain reaction continues. I believe the same will hold true for divorce.

40% of marriages end in divorce. Whatever the reason, the effects are usually the same to any children produced in the union. Gay marriage is not a real threat to the American family, if you want to restore family values and promote "a normal upbringing", ban divorce.

I'd be all for the government not recognizing marriage legally, but thats never going to happen, its too entrenched in our lawbooks. Like it or not, marriage is tied into religion, which is equally tied into US law. Not the first breach of the whole separation of church and state either.

First off, I think gays should be able to do whatever the fuck they want.  Just like us breeders they should be entitled to be miserable with whoever they want. 

The real problem with gay marriage is what to do with a divorce- I mean if there's no woman in the relationship, how do you totally fuck the guy over in divorce court?  Do both guys take half their shit and throw it in the garbage, then make payments to a randomly appointed woman who feels entitled to someone else's dough????  So many questions hahahahaha

I agree with the point that divorce cheapens marriage much more in this country than some same-sex couples wanting the same legal rights as a heterosexual couple. And when it comes down to it, I can't think of a single good reason why they have not already been allowed to get married. How is loving someone so much that you want to dedicate the rest of your life to that person not real? Committing yourself to someone through thick and thin IS a marriage, so let's just put the law on their side already. Further, why would god, who is supposedly such a big proponent of love and tolerance, be against that bond between two people? Hell, I don't see how anyone could be against that. If there is a god, I believe that he's happy there are at least a few people in the world who aren't just trying to blow either other to smithereens. Though, after being married for a while, that may change. (jokes)

The bottom line is if they want to be miserable like the rest of the world, let them go for. Live your dream.

i'm not a huge fan of gays but that doesn't mean they should be restricted of their rights. They are people too after all - just with a different lifestyle. They should be able to get married and have the benefits of marriage if they want to...

gays are fine and all, but i do not think that children should be brought up with 2 fathers....

let them get married, but a child adopted by two fathers isn't right. Theres a reason why men can't produce children and it should stay that way.

because its not natural, thats why. Two fathers are NOT capable of taking care of a young baby who needs breast milk. a baby needs a female in their life to see both sides of the spectrum. Two fathers cannot provide what a mother brings to their young life. It's just not fair to the child. every day of their life they will be wondering why all other kids have a mom and a dad.

And I have plenty of friends whose parents are divorced... I gaurentee they would rather have their family be divorced than to have 2 dads. I'm an example of this.

First of all, lots of mothers don't breast feed, that's why you can buy formula. Why cant two fathers provide for a kid the way a mother does? It's all relative anyway - you're assuming that the mother is actually good at it, which isn't always reality. My best friend and her sister were raised by their dad because their mother is a piece of shit and they turned out just fine. I doubt that would have been the case if their mother had been more in the picture, and I doubt that things would be different if there was a second guy around. Sure a kid might get picked on sometimes for having gay parents, but seriously, what kid in the world has NEVER gotten teased about something? I'm sure they'll learn to deal, and as kids leave that 12 year old stupid stage, they mostly stop caring about it anyway.

When it comes down to it, what matters isn't the gender of the parents. It's about the parents giving a shit, paying attention to and loving the kid, and being able to provide for them.

well thats entirely your opinion and i disagree with it. Sure love is important but having no mother in the picture of a family is just abnormal... Kids need a father and a mother to turn to for certain needs. I go to my mom and my dad about different things. two fathers just don't have the same chemistry as a mother and father do.
i will never agree that two fathers is a good choice FOR AN ADOPTED CHILD. its taking away their right to have REAL parents. two horny men who enjoy boning eachother don't equal parents..

You are right, having two mothers or fathers won't have the same chemistry as a mother and a father. However, that doesn't mean the parenting will be subpar.

I'd rather have 2 fathers or 2 mothers over
-divorced parents
-dead parents (one or the other or both)
-deadbeat parents (Drugs, alcohol, beatings, or extended absences)

Are you seriously saying you would rather a kid sat in an orphanage because his biological parents were unfit for the task than allow that kid to be raised by a homosexual couple? There are plenty of kids who need parents, it isn't like homosexual couples are cradle robbing people.

Your last sentence was distasteful and not worth any more of my time than I have already given to it.

I really wish Arabian or Drew were still here, they were much better at this than I am. -_-

Not so much that I think gay people shouldn't be allowed to marry or adopt, but I think that a male and female role model will raise a more well rounded individual. I'm not saying gay parents are doomed to raise bad kids or something, but I think there is something to be said for a balance in life. I think children learn from their parents, and having a masculine male role model and a feminine female role model is a good thing for a child. No one is right or wrong in this sort of argument, this is just my opinion.

well the first reason is because you're an idiot and every post i've ever read of yours is an argument . therefore I refuse to agree with anything you write because you're one of those " I KNOW ALL" type people "SO YOU BETTER LISTEN TO ME".

Secondly I just have my own reasons as to why children should be raised with parents of different gender, divorced or not, I think its important to get advice/discipline from man and woman. Teenage years are hard to deal with and advice from a mom and dad point of view cover both sides of the spectrum; something a dad/dad point of view doesn't have. Theres many more reasons as to why i believe this but i'm not going to waste another second talking to people who i don't like that much because I know you'lll just say "you're a fucking idiot, i eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast" as to which i'd reply you eat pieces of shit for breakfast?

The thing is, it isn't a complex issue. Its a matter of freedom. You're denying the rights of a certain type of people to get married.




Again, any progressive idea is opposed vehemently at first, and then it becomes accepted as the norm. Think of black rights, womens rights etc. We will look back at this in 10 or 20 years and think how fucking stupid it was to not allow gays to get married. People oppose this under the guise of "logical" arguments, but really, its just a matter of people being ignorant and bigoted.
