NS kills my personal life. resulting in depression
FFFFUUU NS! It also kills my academics, easiest way to procrastinate.

and every time i come on here it reminds me that i can't ski for a bunch of months

The video section is past its prime no doubt.

I judge my self worth based on my post count and Karma.

GOOD NEWS.  We are actually a week or two away from launching a new video section.  Stay tuned :)

I have a feeling you guys will disable embedding; if you do, if at all possible, PLEASE do not disable videos that have been uploaded in the past via embedding. That would really suck if that happened. In fact, please don't disable embedding at all.

I think nopoles has stated that embedding is gonna stay, but hopefully there will be more reason to use the NS player *cough HD? cough*

Having more videos hosted by NS would be great, but I'll still love my embedded vimeos too.

We toyed with the idea of completely disabling embeds. We really wanted to do it because frankly it makes working with the galleries a complete Pain in the Ass.

We also can't make embedded videos work nicely with our system and do things like feature in NSTV and such.

The break our layout, don't do anything for revenue, and are making all of you simply give your content to some assholes in San Francisco who started their companies on zillions of dollars of venture capitol.

HOWEVER -

We've always had a policy around here to listen to our users, and do everything we can to not force you to do things... even if its to the detriment of the site. This place is built on a foundation of community and users, and we will never forget that.

So anyways, we made absolutely sure that all legacy embeds will be preserved. As well, we have left in the ability to embed videos in the galleries going forwards. The major thing will be that you will not be able to get your videos featured in VOD, NSTV, etc if you don't upload them to the site. Its just plain impossible for us to make the system we want to make and have those allowed.

What we're hoping is that the new product we release will entice you to simply host your ski video content at Newschoolers. We don't want to force you, we realize that the only way we can get you back is to provide you with something that works for your needs, provides the features you want, keeps quality where it should be and is super fucking easy to use.

I'm confident that we have addressed many of the issues facing our video system, and hope that you will at least give it a try before running back to Vimeo. We're also going to be rolling out all kinds of cool things related to NSTV that might help entice some of our higher level producers host their content with us.

We're in this video thing 150%, which is why it has taken so long and pulled such huge amounts of our development time away from everything else. We want to make this work for you, and hopefully you guys like it.

I'm certainly excited to see this come out.

Note that they are launching in Beta. This was a huge task, so we're expecting there to be a bunch of tweaks we need to make before everything is perfect.

That's actually a good thing. That means the developers are ready to make some changes based on what the "people" want

Yeah. We've been listening for a really long time too, so hopefully we got a lot of the stuff you wanted along the way.

Of course with how long this has taken maybe your tastes have changed. :)

I feel abit of NS depression come late June when the summer camps start and all the updates start flooding in. Stoked for the new video section!

one thing that I think would be really good for the video section, when you link a video on your Facebook wall such as a vimeo link or youtube you can play it right from Facebook, with ns you have to click the link and since not many people know what ns is sometimes people think it is spam. It would be nice to have the feature where you can watch it right on facebook
