I agree Tyler isn't close to being a lyrical masterind. If you want a mastermind look up Deltron , Slug (atmosphere) , P.O.S. , Eyedeas and Abilities.... Stuff like that is genius. But Tyler is unique, and definitely isn't shit. If anyone pays any attention, he says 80% of the shit he raps about is "fiction". He doesn't go for the shock value angle on purpose. He just embraces the dark side each of us has on some level. And alot of the less shocking stuff he says is honest. That's why I like it. And he has some interesting shit going on. I don't give one fuck about the blogs, or that shit. I just appreciate his music, no matter what image is associated with it.

it's all hipster gimmicky bullshit. oh, they reference satan a lot and rap about rape and shit. so hardcore. the only reason people even listen to this shit is because most hip hop is so bland and shitty that people just want to hear something shocking and different. While oddfuture provides that for sure, they're just not that good. tyler particularly. sorry.

Anyone who tries to defend OF for their lyrical content is just buying into the same bullshit.

It isn't meant to be hardcore. The Satan references, the rapin and killin bitches. All fiction. I'm not defending that they are good lyricists. Just that it isn't supposed to be hardcore, or anything. It's just an embodiment of all the dark thoughts everyone has. Sure it takes a more violent twist, but it is just how they are. And Tyler has some really interesting jazz influenced beats in his music.

Oh and btw don't say most "hip-hop" is bland. Shit like Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, etc. Is not hip hop. It's just rap. Same with OF and Tyler, it's just rap. Hip Hop has real M.C's with real lyrics that hold meaning and value. Shit like Brother Ali and Grieves, that's hip hop.

Just tell me why their lyrics are shit. And Im not talking about Just Tyler or Just Earl, Im talking everyone.


Tyler might not have some of the best lyrics compared to the others but the thought that goes into each song is very interesting and unique.

As someone said earlier him and his future....bhahahaha... are the gimmick as of right now, because hip-hop/rap is no longer interesting to listen to on a main-scale.

Frank Ocean is already big in his own right. he's written songs for Beyonce, Bieber, John Legend. It's not the same kind of 'big' as Tyler, but writing songs for some of the biggest names in music is a huge deal.

i really dont like listening to rap about made up shit just for the shock value. in my mind its the same as some rapper who grew up rich rapping about the hood and selling drugs because he knows thats what people want to hear.
i listened to tyler for like a week but i just dont like his flow. earl is sick and would be alot sicker if he didnt rap about dumb OF stuff (eating people, raping bitches etc.)

well we're talking about music not movies. very different. and i actually do hate horror movies haha

i guess just different opinions, but yes music absolutely does have to be real for me to like it. probably why i dont like immortal technique and am always wary of "white rasta" bands (although i do like alot of those)

actually kind of true for movies as well. i can definitely appreciate a good "fantasy" film (star wars ftw) but as ive gotten older ive realized i would rather watch a movie about real life with an great story than something with a bunch of made up elements

odd future is sort of an entity in the music industry, even a novelty. theyre there to fill in that need everyone has for an artist thats outrageous, and not really meant to be liked. so everyone loves loving odd future because they feel like they shouldnt, because they feel like nobody should. I dont know if that makes sense to anyone else. but I think OF is best enjoyed when you just listen to it and not overthink it or overhype it or try to make is sound like some crazy musical apocolyptical end-all.

also, Earl and Hodgy are the best, Tyler is .. meh.
