Shooting a music video tomorrow night in a bar and then out on the street. Should I bring in some lighting or just keep the street lights/ bar color lights?
Thanks!

Reckon it'd be REALLY dim, if the bars in the US are as dark as they're here. Might be cool to get like a spot light up or something, like a little bit too harsh and make it pop that way out of the dark surrounding.
Of course idk what your shoot will look like, but a bar normally is dark (too dark) for shooting I'd say.
I'm not a cinematographer (yet!), but I would NEVER shoot in a bar without a flash - it'd be WAY too dark.

definitely bring lighting with you, you can always modify it to make it look ambient. Good rule is to always have more light then less!

Ive seen some club/bar edits where the cinematographer has a LED light ring around the lens of their camera or on the mic so it lights up the person they are focusing on but the rest is natural. It worked well, I would try that.

Shooting in a bar will be a disaster without lights. Depending on your budget, I'd try to grab a few Kino Flos for the interior shots. Maybe a 4x4 "fat man", a 2x4 "thin man". These give a really nice soft fill that won't be too overbearing or stylized. You may also want to consider a halogen 650w (ish) with a softbox as a key. Make sure they're all tungsten balanced (or bring gels) so that you can still use ambient light.

not a bad camera to shoot low light on, but definitely want to have lights. I guess its more important to ask what lenses you have for it?

with a 17-40, definitely. f4 isn't great in low light.
what lights do you already have? and do you live near any camera stores?
