im a freestyle instructor, i progress new people like this.
first you gotta pick what the conditions are better on, jumps or jibs. knowing how to switch is kindof important too.
for jibs: slide straight on a box
then try sideways (switch out is usually easier)
flat-down box if you have one
down box
then try a rail (non urban style is less intimidating, but not harder really)
try pretzel 2s out
blind 2s
2s on to boxes
swaps on boxes
switch ups on rails
2s on to rails
for jumps:
hit it straight
do some grabs
if you can find a really small jump (preferably a 5-10ft table) do a 180
if the only jumps are kinda big, then go for a 3 (but you must be comfortable on the jumps and commit)
GRABS WILL HELP. they flatten you out so there is less chance of falling
then obviously work your way up the spins.
if you're good at snowboarding, many skills are transferable. especially on jumps.
if you can do good flips on a board they should be maybe even easier on skis
