Salaries of pro skiers

im doing a stats project comparing the age of pro skiers and how much they get paid each year (comps, sponsorships, film shoots, and anything else they get paid for counts). so i was wondering if anybody knew where i could find how much the pros are worth, anything you have can help. or you can just bullshit data on here and ill turn that in to my teacher instead.

ESPN tracks a lot of comp results, and you can find out elsewhere how much the purses were.

more like allowance, most pros are from rich families and barely get paid by ski companies.

there are only a handful of skiers that get paid anything worth writing about.

i dont really know much about this, but i think they dont really make much money, but save because sponsors pay for things like tickets, equipment, other essentials.

and if you're hot on the comp scene like kevin rolland and win or podium in a lot of stuff thats a lot of prize money. can't remember how much the 1st at dumont cup prize was but i remember it being a LOT

thankagaper is spot on.

unless you're talking about T-Hall, Bobby Brown, or Simon Dumont, very few pro skiers make any money at all. They get a budget that allows them to travel and cover expenses, maybe pay their rent if they're lucky. But you don't make a living off of skiing, they do it because they love to ski. As far as I know, Red Bull and Under Armour pay their top athletes the most.

Skiing is just a way bigger sport over their.



But yes once you're sponsored by a local company you are rich and get everything for free.

Like most extreme sports, for example DH Mountain Biking, the pros don't get paid very much. They get paid more in equipment and covers on expenses than an actual salary.

The money isn't in non-mainstream sports. For sure if you win big comps which are sponsored by leading-brands you'll get nice prize money but it's not a consistent salary and will vary from comp to comp.

Pros deserve massive salaries just as much as those damn footballers, some of them clearly only play for the ridiculous sums money they get. At least 99% of pro skiers do it because of their love for skiing :)

horrible comparison and there are plenty of extreme sports where the athletes make a very comfortable living. and we're talking about actual pros, not people who only get flow and some traveling expenses. pro = professional as in making a living out of it.

Pro Skiers is a large range of people. If you are talking about the unheard of people they live in there cars and stuff. People like Simon Dumont, Jon Olson, and Sammy Carlson don't have a yearly salary. They live off of sponsorship points. Sponsorship points are basically how much you can show there company logo or mention positive things about them

An example is when Jon Olson won the big air comp in the x-games he is getting like $100,000 for winning from the x-games and $50,000 for showing off his new Oakley Goggles and his new Head Ski Pro line and other little products. The more he shows his sponsors and talk about them, the more money he gets.

The Average well known pro Gets around $300,000 on a good year

Even 36k a year isn't bad considering your sponsors will probably fork over money for your expenses.

yea if you podium and say you make 10 grand for first place at the dew tour or x games, you usually get endorsement money from the sponsors cuz your wearing their stuff when you win. its a marketing concept.

im not saying they make a mill off of it. but if they win 10 grand they might make an extra 5 or 6 from the sponsors

To Answer the original question: the worst way to find pro's salaries is to ask on Newschoolers, I haven't read one correct piece of information in this thread. The best way to gather your datta would be to describe your survey and ask them individually over facebook or whatever. But make sure that all survey results are anonymous because there is a confidentiality aspect in all endorsement contracts.

no way in hell. sorry to burst your bubbles, but i bet less than 10 pro skiers make this much in a good year. as several people have mentioned, most of your idols you consider "pro skiers" don't MAKE any money at all, they get expenses covered and get to simply survive without a real job for most of the year so they can ski every day. Dudes who do a lot of competitions (and do well in them) are the guys making a lot of money. I consider a Pro skier someone who makes a living off skiing, which most of us sponsored skiers do not.

Ha. Salary? Most don't even have an hourly wage... they get equipment and maybe travel paid for, and the rest is comps etc etc. Unless you're one of the top like, 20. How many Jon Olsson's you see rolling around Breck everyday? Not many.

this is simply not "general". One can win 50k in his top year but fuck things up the year after and get barely 20k the year after and nothing the year after. Lots of "one hit wonder" in this industry, from what i know...

salary of a pro skier is approximatly around 1 875 120£ (british pounds) (3,017,214.58 USD) to my opinion. And I heard you can only get paid in Brithis Pounds once you're a pro skier.

Ok so I did it all out for you. I used 25 different well known skiiers.
The mean was $578,396 with a standard deviation of $64,789. The R value was 0.7762.

but what was the R squared value? everyone knows that is the truly important one.

on a more serious note I would guess that very, very few make 6 figures, they do it cuz they get to do what they love everyday.
