NS, need legal advice

So my girlfriend's dad is an alcoholic, and the parents just got seperated. This weekend, he was gone for 3 days and when he came back, he told them that he had gambled away all of the money, literally all of it. They don't have a cent in their bank accounts because of him. Earlier, maybe 7 or 8 years ago, he had gambled away all of the money in my girlfriends bank account, and after that, the mom had seperated the bank accounts and made it so that he couldn't access any of them but his. So i am wondering if there is anyway to sue him or make it so they get at least some of their money back? Anything would be great at this point, she is pretty down about it. She doesn't have any money to go to college and either does her brother.

If he didn't legally have access to their accounts, I'm sure you could sue for fraud or theft. If he did gave legit access to them, I dont think there is much you can doi

sounds like a pretty bad situation. if he blew all the money like you said, it's doubtful suing would get them anywhere.

unless he has assets in his name like cars of the house or stuff like that, then maybe they could go after that. but if he really did blow all of their money and now he doesn't even have any of his own...they may be screwed. life isn't fair like that, really sucks but i hope the family has some sort of recourse.

What are they gonna sue him for? you just said he gambled away every last cent.

I have no legal expertise whatsoever, but it seems to m e like the best you might be able to do is get like a monthly payment plan, but I kinda doubt that they'd get it

theres really nothing you can do...im sure the money was under his name or conected and he spent it all so its gone. I was in a similar situation where my dad stole about 30 thousand from me, spent it all with out me knowing, and now its gone. Pretty devistating and if i ever saw him face to face again iw ould probably beat the living shit out of him. But thats another story
