Have had the same problem since last March so for sure feel your pain. Time and rest do help but it's pretty hard to do that, especially once ski season kicks in, so a couple things I've also found work...
- Like someone said, if you have the money to go to a boot-fitter, for sure do that but if it's too much, you can do a pretty good makeshift job yourself. Get some padding, the 3M tape works, and place it between the tongue of your boot and the outer plastic shell. You want to put one strip to left of each shin and one strip to the right of each so that those areas absorb any shock on landings and give your shins a break. Also, put some heel lifts in the soles of your boots to keep you more forward on landings.
- If you feel down your shin, you may have some bumps that have formed. They're additional deposits that have built up on the shin as a result of the repeated abuse and it helps immensely to work and smooth them out. So, I'm not gonna lie, this is pretty painful but I found the best is to get in a bath or hot tub and use an empty beer bottle to roll down each shin...i do about 25 on each side. Again, pretty painful but said beer and some whiskey usually goes a long way. Right after get some ice on them for 20 minutes and ice them a few times that night. Head's up, they will probably hurt badly that night and the next few but after that, you'll notice a huge decrease in pain.
- Also, it helps to use your hands to work out the muscles on the backs of your legs from your achilles to your calf every couple days
- Since it's hard not to ski, do as much as you can to avoid landing super flat or backseat because every additional hit you take to your shins makes them that much worse. Landing switch helps a good deal too.
- And as my buddy and I were joking about last week, there is always the last method that muay thai fighters use, which is to kick bamboo until you lose feeling in your shins. Causes nerve damage and shin weakness but if you've had shin bang bad enough for long enough you start to consider some things...
But yeah, good luck with everything n hope they start to feel better for you-
