Simon Dumont's broken halfpipe idea.

In the mind of Simon Dumont an idea has been germinating for about 6 years and finally today it came to fruition and completion. With the support of Red Bull, Snow Park Technologies and Squaw Valley this halfpipe was beyond even what those involved had imagined. Obviously you'll be seeing a lot of coverage in Freeskier and in Poorboyz Productions next movie over the next few months.

In the meantime, here are a few teaser shots to wet you appetite. Special thanks go out to Simon for allowing us to shoot and to everyone involved from Red Bull, Snow Park Technologies, Squaw and Poorboyz.

i assumed the pipe was already there, they figured out which parts to cut after having him hit it a bunch, and then cut that bitch up

The pipe was there but you got the rest of it right. It was a pretty extensive process of getting it all lined up.

Exaclty what I thought. They should put little pipe sections in terrian parks, and then put some rails on top of some. You don't really see too many 1/4 pipes that aren't hips or in the middle of the park.

It took 4 days to cut. 4 Long days. Most of which started around 2-3pm and went until 2-4am. The last day we got down before midnight and it was awesome haha. They had to work almost entirely at night because it was so damn warm. It would have been impossible to get those clean walls if they had worked during the day, the fact that it basically stormed during the entire cutting of the pipe was really helpful. Trust me it wasn't as simple as, "they just built a halfpipe and pushed the snow out", it was a serious art to get that thing to look as it does.

when you make a half pipe, think about it like kneading dough or wedging clay if you know what that is.  The consistency has to be as even as possible to get the cut and it takes a looong time to do it right.  skodeo said it only took 4 days to cut it so im guessing most of the snow was already there if not the whole half pipe.  so maybe not a quarter million but probably close to $100,000 with everyones payroll, deisel and insurance it adds up quick.

I meant it took 4 days to cut the gaps. They had spent a lot of time making it prime, also added 100 feet onto the end of it. A lot of the time there was 4 cats working simultaneously in the cutting process.
