i was just trying to look at porn and i clicked on a pretty sketchy page and it started downloading a zip file called anti malware or something. i erased it etc and then did repair disk permissions (im on a mac). am i probably safe?

also, in the details on disk permissions the last line is:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent has been modified and will not be repaired"

any concerns or am i okay? it's not my computer really so i need to make sure everything's legit..soon

i know but that line "macs don't get viruses" can't be 100% true. i dont like the line "Remote Management" being there, at all

i dont like this remote management shit at all. i think im gonna turn it off completely and hope the owner of this comp doesnt ever need to use it lol

let's just say i'd rather something happen to my computer than this one...

most of the stuff ive found googling says im probably fine, but a couple have been more pessimistic..

soooo what? any machine can get a virus. Mac virus's just aren't as prevalent because most hackers like write software that targets the majority. But what you downloaded is a Trojan back dorm worm. Actually a really nasty one that disguise's itself as a anti-virus solution. As long as you didn't open it your fine tho. Plus as far as i know this worm only has builds for windows.

No shit, but as you said yourself there aren't builds for it for OSX because it's a waste of time. Simply put, Macs don't get viruses...they CAN but it just never happens, or at least is rare enough that no one worries about it. I have Symantec running since I got it for free, but if I didn't I wouldn't bother buying it.

Same with my ubuntu.

what virus writer in there right mind would write a virus for something besides windows. Most people use windows, especially most of the dumb IE6 users etc.

that doesn't mean its not going to start happening in the future. As mac continues to more and more popular, infections will become more common. + many virus(ex. koobface) are now starting to be written in java and distributed through facebook and twitter. Since the virus is written in multi-platform applet it can hit any OS that is capable of executing java (mac, windows, even linux).

To the OP: i did some research and there are 2(known) virus's that attack the ARDAgent hole. Both are pretty nasty worms but they are disguised as poker games not anti-virus software. Your probably alright but just be careful what you get into in the future. When you on the net never click ok to confirmations unless you can be positive of the publisher.

Download some anti-virus software if your really worried.
