I was at my church group today, and our priest (usually really happy, good guy) was so scared and quiet. He showed us this, and we're all pretty scared right now. Im not sure what to think anymore.
Lets keep the bible bashing to a low, i want to show my church community some serious input. My priest said we only have so many hours to reconcile, and i agree
And another thing, maybe its because Im super baked, but I was just thinking, if Christianity wasn't created and is just a bunch of bullshit and there is no god, that necessarily means that there was never a date in which Jesus is returning... So?
"The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion" -John Adams, 1797
"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government" -Thomas Jefferson, 1813
"Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity" -Thomas Paine, 1795
"An alliance or coalition between Government and religion can not be too carefully guarded against" -James Madison, 1822
"As to Jesus of Nazareth, my opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the system of morals and his religion, as he left them to us, the best the world ever saw or is likely to see, BUT IT WAS RECEIVED VARIOUS CORRUPT CHANGES, AND I HAVE, WITH MOST OF THE PRESENT DISSENTERS OF ENGLAND, SOME DOUBTS AS TO HIS DIVINITY"
And yeah, America was first founded as an English speaking nation, since everyone here was
English. But, over time the U.S. became a nation of immigrants from all over the world. There's a reason we don't have an official language.
The non believers. They are the people who managed to get God out of schools. The same people pushing evolution as fact on our kids. The people who turned holidays like easter, all hallows eve and Christmas into nothing but secular holidays for over-consumerism.
It's so sad to see the mainstream news bashing Christians at every point.
This is a prime example of what happens when you take God out of our school system. They use quotes from the bible and our Godly founding fathers in away to make it all seem ridiculous.
America was founded because people were being persecuted for following Jesus in England. That is why we are here, that is why our once great country was founded.
see the peaks? god will strand your soul there for millions of years, then the devil will cast you into the fire where you will burn eternally if you dont change your ways
Ive been a fan of your posts in the past, but, honestly this one I dont approve of, there's a reason that the "non believers" are trying to force God out of our public school system. Because as scientists continue to collect evidence further proving that evolution is actually factual i.e. Fossil Record, Molecular dating and Comparative Biochemistry, the church has little to know evidence other then a book, published by a bunch of hacks, attempting to force there beliefs onto people weak enough to actually fall into that junk, yes I do agree that the commercialism that has been incorporated into certain holidays is bullshit, but there is a reason were trying to push god out of our school system.
Hey guys, it's alright. For those of us who don't pass judgement, the world doesn't actually end until October 21st so we can put off the worrying for another month or two!
And OP, why is your congregation worried? Presumably y'all pass the judgement test by default
God does not hate anyone, he just hates the sin. He loves each and everyone of us with true unconditional love.
I myself like everyone am guilty of many sins. I do my best to live a Godly life but I mess up all the time. I pray constantly to Jesus for guidance and forgiveness.
As some people on here know, I've been struggling with breaking free of the homosexual lifestyle. I started questioning my faith years ago. I felt like nobody loved me, not even god. I started partying a bunch, experimenting with different things. This was a real low point in my life. Around the same time I started to dive headfirst into the sin of living the homosexual lifestyle. I didn't even care about God, which is really really sad because that whole time he love me, and he cared about me. I'm still struggling with it every day. I keep messing up, but I've been talking to some of our youth pastures at church and getting some good guidance. Also I've been on another forum a bunch with people struggling with the same thing.
It's seriously one of the hardest struggles of my life. It's not easy, but it's getting better. I hope that at some point I can truly break the bonds of this sinful habit and no longer shame my body in the eyes of God. I recently began dating this girl from church, a godly woman. She has been so great in understand my battle and helping me on my progress. I hope to at some point marry her and start a family. Something that I once thought was so impossible, so out of reach, is seeming more and more possible everyday.
I pray daily for all of you on here, and hope one day you will see the light, and let God into your heart. He has a plan for each and every one of you, he loves you all. I just hope you can see the truth, accept him as your savior, and let him turn your life around into something beautiful.
If you have any questions or thoughts feel free to PM me. Today is a new day, it could be the beginning of something beautiful. Please don't let it go to waste.
2) These quotes aren't making the founding fathers "seem ridiculous". They are quotes that directly reflect how some of our founding fathers felt about religion.
3) A number of our founding fathers (such as Thomas Jefferson) were Deists. Do you know what a Deist is?
4) Regarding your comment about why America was founded, NO. That is just 100% untrue. Every fucking branch of Christianity (Even the Church of England) follow Jesus Christ. That's what Christianity is. People left England because they were being persecuted for following branches of Christianity that were unpopular there.
This is bullshit, utter bullshit, you realize there is evidence that your "sinful ways" are caused by a gene defect? You can't change that, you oughta be happy man, people who suppress there homosexuality generally end up committing suicide, or being unhappy for the rest of your days, it doesn't matter how some guy in a robe interoperates some "book". You should be happy man, live the way you want, stop suppressing something you can't run from. Id hate to see an innocent kid like you waste away in unhappiness.
i regret to inform you that i fall into the category of "they." i believe in evolution and dont believe that christianity should be taught as fact in schools. i dont know if god exists. maybe he does maybe he doesnt. i dont really care ill find out eventually or i wont. i dont believe god affects my daily life.
in my opinion religion is what was created to provide answers for what our ancestors could not explain as well as to lay out a moral guideline for how one should live his or her life. very understandable. i think that this second concept is very admirable (despite being somewhat paternalistic and strict.) organized religion does a lot of good things. however, religion can and is often used very destructively.
as far as your concern about getting god out of schools, most colleges and universities offer courses on religion and sunday school provides another opportunity to learn when one is younger. i think religion is very important to learn about because it has had such a huge impact on our species and the world. but i dont think it should be accepted as fact
our understanding of our world is constantly changing and evolving as we make new discoveries. technological and scientific progression is the only way for us to discover and learn more about our world.
not true. it was a sect of christianity. they were puritans. they wanted to separate from the church of england. they were being oppressed by the christian church of england
I hear you I really do. I' not trying to be this guy that's closed of to learning new things. I think we always have to be learning, and science is an important thing. I just feel like we're using it as an excuse to get god out of our culture completely. And honestly, that scares me
I'm sorry I refuse to believe that being homosexual is a sin and that god will judge against you for it.
It's not a choice, you never chose to be gay and I never chose to be straight.
I know many gay and lesbian people, hell my GRANDMA is lesbian and lives with her life partner (Now you thought thinking about regular elderly couples having sex was bad). She also has four kids, and my grandpa is still alive too...and his father was a Methodist bishop...and he never once believed that homosexuals were out of gods grace.
I myself am not a religious person, I don't deny the possibility of a higher power but I believe that the power of judgement and morality comes from ourselves. Only we can save ourselves. Every "sin" we commit is a battle of us and our own concious.
No sane person can commit murder or inflict pain physically or emotionally onto others our ourselves without remorse (not the sane part) so the matter of judgement only lies within ourselves to settle the cognitive dissonance that results from going against our own morality.
That being said, your "battle" with your homosexual lifestyle is only because you are trying to deal with the cognitive dissonance between what you really feel and what you think you are supposed to do by people who are bigoted against a lifestyle choice.
I have issues with my alcohol usage...it got me expelled from college. I have to battle with the fact that I am making a destructive decision because I cannot handle alcohol in any amount. That is my struggle, others have their own, but it is not god that will judge us...its ourselves.
That is why the world is not ending this weekend, no one other that ourselves can end our existence. There is no expiration date put on our species other than the one we create for ourselves by destructive decisions. The more we stray from what we truly believe is right, the more instability we cause within ourselves and within others. This reaches a tipping point where we all just go apeshit and kill each other.
Through the power invested in us by our own own conciousness we pronounce our own fate. Amen.
That I'm an atheist? Why believe something I can't see? Once I see "God" personally, I'll change my ways, but for now if I can't see him, he isn't real. Too many people are brainwashed. It's like thinking the the tooth fairy, santa claus, easter bunny etc. are real. They aren't.
I didn't think I chose to be a homosexual. I still don't think I thought about choices and decided to pick a or b. IT wasn't like that at all. Maybe it was a mix of things. The fact that I never had a good relationship with my father when I was younger and that hurt me. I didn't have a strong father figure to guide me. My parents were christians, but my dad struggled with a lot of anger. That anger got directed at me far too often, as a young kid and it really affected me. That mixed with how much homosexuality is pushed in our culture today made it more easy for me to transition into that lifestyle. In trying to find love I found myself full on trapped in the bonds of the homosexual lifestyle. I hated it, I hated myself for it.
I feel like I really am doing the best thing for me right now. It's not going to be an easy battle, I know that. I also know from reading the bible that God ALWAYS gives us a way out of temptation. Every time you sin, there was always a way you could have avoided it. It's impossible to live a sinless life, we know that. But you you have to think before you act and just do the best you can to live your life right through gods eyes.
Yeah, as a matter of fact, I have. As it turns out, I know quite a bit about the Protestant Reformation and, I don't know if you realize this, but Protestants left the Catholic church, they remained Christian which means that they continued to follow Jesus Christ. Catholicism and every single branch of Protestantism are based on the teachings of Christ.
Also it was the 95 theses, not the 95 thesis.
Thesis is the singular form but, since there were 95 of them, you pluralize it.
P.S. Way to only respond to one of the four points I made and not even make sense in your rebuttal to that one.
