Frank was one of the smartest people of the 20th century, or of all centuries. He is absolutely right, without an sufficient education system, democracy will always fail, as what is happening slowly but surely in the US.

american education is quite fine especially compared with the vast number of impoverished nations.

Considering how much of an international powerhouse it is though, the world could probably be a better place if it had a really educated population. For such a powerful country, its education isn't nearly as good as other "developed nations".

That proves jack shit, its obvious that you can have possibly the best education in the U.S but thats only if your rich or lucky. For the average joe... education dosent even get to university level if they even graduate highschool.

Its an interesting point he makes how people are to stupid to vote and from my experience this is true however this is not the individuals fault but a failing of the state. So i guess i agree with him that for the state to exist it needs to educate its people well on the workings of the state.

It's not an argument, it's a fact. We have the best Universities in the world. 40% of our population has a college degree. As far as I'm concerned that is pretty damn good, but there is always room for improvement. 6th highest I am pretty sure.

The issue with our public education system is that it is state based. To categorize all the states performance at a national level does not represent individual states accurately. The problem is regional. Which Frank forgot to mention.

Do you not understand the the top universities you listed are only attended by a tiny fraction of the US population? In other words those who can afford it. As for the 40% of the population having college degrees I wonder what calibur of college they are. Not just ABC community college located on Tom Dick and Harry Avenue that dot any significant metropolitan area or the University of Phoenix which someone can attend at home.

Take my home city of Vancouver for example, it has its fair share of generic colleges that offer jack shit compared to the few world class universities it has.

The US is the only place where you can graduate with a degree and not attend a single class.

ahhh this bit is false. If anything, the US is one of the few that seems to have any sort of attendance policies that students respect. I've personally taken classes in France and England, and have friends who have been in germany, spain and italy, and we all noticed that the natives came to class the 1st day, then were for the most part, gone until the last day.

The US is the only place that I've witnessed students consistently going to class.

It doesn't matter what country the top colleges/universities are.  These days, it doesn't really matter what country you go to school as long as we can attract the top talent to work for US companies.

Public school system needs to be revised.  Need to find the top education people, the people that know how to fix a school, and pay them a shitload to go around from school to school and 'fix it'.  Obviously this will cost a ton of money, probably the best way the government could spend money though.

Largest problem with the public school system is that it fails to motivate students.  Teaching is worthless if the kids don't want to learn, which is whats happening.
