I am sure that all of you want to ski all summer long like myself. I've been thinking of ways I can make a jib in my back yard. My idea is that I will have a flat 1'1/2" platform 5' off the ground, followed by a 8' long ramp and a flat 1'1/2" long lip that is one foot off the ground. I'm not worried about what I'm going to make the ramp out of (wood seems like the best thing). What I need to know is what would be the best material to use to slide on. I do have access to snow through the summer, however it's a pain to get. I have thought of lying PBC close together perpendicular to the sides of the ramp, but that will most likely get expensive. I have also thought of using Astroturf and that black mat that you put on gardens to keep the weeds out. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Oh, and if any of your ideas involve it I have access to power tools and I can weld.
Construction fence is cheapest for a run in, turf is good for a lip and landing since you get more traction. Don't let anyone talk you out of using pvc for your features. HDPE is a rip.
ok, first off, pvc is pretty cheap, like $2 for 10 feet of 1inch dia. second, technicly you dont use astroturf for your setup, not the stuff used in fields, you use what is called indoor/outdoor carpet. it is anywhere from $0.25-.70 per sq ft. it is available at most home depots in the carpet section.
Indoor/outdoor carpet? I actually think that I can get that cheap. What exactly is it, and why is it superior to astroturf? Do I have to water it or anything like that?
AstroTurf is actually just a brand of artificial turf, Home Depot has it you can buy it in any size you want, its just on a big ass carpet roll kind of thing. As mentioned construction fence will also help you on your drop in.
Construction fence is what you can lay on your tranny to give you more speed. You should staple it onto the turf. ITs optional though, maybe give your rail a try or two, and buy it based on whether or not you need the extra speed.
2x4s, a bunch of them. 3/4 inch particle board or ply. 1/2 inch for any section if you're doing curves. Steel, fuck pvc.
Drill holes with a small bit first, then a bigger bit enough to fit the screw head through, use some 3 inch screws. Screw that shit hard into a 2x4 frame. Screw them side ways on each side of a single 2x4 in the middle that's just under the height of the steel. That shit will be like a rock.
