GoPro on RC plane?

Has anyone done it with a transmitter so you can fly it by the camera? if so how did you or does anyone know a way to do it cheaply?

Someone rigged a 7D to a RC helicopter once.

but i do remember a youtube video of some guy who did it. also attached a nerf type gun to the same craft.

you are going to want a video transmitter and one heafty ass plane.
yes it can be done.

use the video out to a transmitter and get a monitor on the ground.
winning.

google video transmitter. you might have to build your own to jack up the distance and lower the weight.

level 1 did that for some park shoot stuff last year as well. my friend a go-pro on an RC plane, said it was pretty shaky and the footage didnt turn out so well unfortunately.

You can use a video transmitter to send the live signal from the GoPro to a ground station where you can use goggles to see what the aircraft sees in real time. Quality depends on what transmitters you get, as well as a few other things. It's quite common actually, just search for FPV RC.

You can take it a step further and incorporate pan-tilt mechanisms which let you control the direction of the camera. With some programming and GPS, you can have the camera geo-referenced so that it will continue pointing at a certain target on the ground. Similarly, you can stabilize the camera.

Here's a picture of an aircraft which was designed around autonomously spotting targets on the ground using a GoPro with a pan-tilt mechanism:

Guy on TGR named trackhead set up some sort of HD camera on an rc helicopter about 2-3 years ago and shot some awesome video, you might want to send him a PM.

This is the rub^

I assume the reason you want to set up a camera to fly by is so that you can fly out of the range of what you can see, which actually sounds absolutely fucking awesome.  The problem is range. Most affordable and even not really affordable radio data transmitters that could handle streaming a video of any quality won't have shit for range. What you'd need is probably going to cost a few pretty pennies and may or may not (not sure) require some shenanigans with the FCC.
