So I'm getting a new laptop but I have 2 questions as far as customization goes...
First question:
Is there really that much of a difference between the 2.2 and the 2.3? From the knowldge I have that much more of a processor really isn't going to makethe computer that much faster.. but from what I've read online people beg to differ..
Second question:
Difference between a solid state hard drive and a regular hard drive?
And that's pretty much it
+k for help!

1: Get the 2.2 and upgrade it. Just put 8GB in it instead of 4GB, much better investment.
2: A SSD doesn't have any moving parts, it uses flash storage which has two advantages, and one disadvantage:
- It's SUPER fast, muuuch more fast than a traditional HD with a moving disc
- It uses a lot less battery, so you'll be able to use your laptop much longer on it's own power supply.
- The disadvantage is that it's, still, very expensive. A 120GB drive is about 200$ or something around those lines. I wouldn't know exactly.
If you're thinking about upgrading your HD to an SSD, don't do so through Apple, it's way too expensive, and not worth it.
Just buy a caddy yourself, like an Optibay, OWC Data doubler or just a cheapo eBay knock-off and do it yourself. Plenty of vids on the web for sure on how to do so.
What I'd recommend is this:
Get the 2.2, swap the 4GB RAM for 8GB, remove the optical drive (CD/DVD player) and put a SSD in there instead, and move your hard drive to the place where the optical drive was.
Good luck.

He really shouldn't upgrade anything through apple, they charge like 400 bucks for 8gb when you can get two 4gb sticks of ram for 100 bucks.

Not always the case. When I went 2Gb to 4Gb when I got mine in 2009 with student discount it was about $5 more to get Apple to do it there and then compared to getting it myself, but then I would have had to wait. So check that out. As painful as it is to talk to Apple store staff in the flesh, they can hook you up sometimes.

word, i just looked and it was 200 bucks to upgrade, it has gone down for sure. 200 bucks is almost worth it if you're already spending 2000

Also might be able to get a trade in for the original ram. I think I saw that 1337 did a trade in with owc or macsales.

Yeah that's what I mean. The Mac Store dude scored me the upgrade cheap with my student discount and they kept the original sticks for spares, which saved me the hassle of having to sell the old sticks myself.

That's what I said - and of course he shouldn't do it through Apple. Overpriced shit.
