Replying to Give me suggestions for a car

Im looking for a new car. Ill have around $5000. Looking for a 4 door preferable, but would be fine with a 2. Good gas mileage, more of a compact car but one that can hold skis. I also want a car thats fairly reliable, I don't want the car to be in the shop 6 days a week. Been looking at cars like a golf or a gti, impreza and even a jeep cherokee. I figured you guys know more about cars than I do, so what should I be looking for?
