Summer skiing at Beartooth Pass this summer.

Just wanted to spread some stoke and let you guys know that the poma lifts on Beartooth Pass are running this summer. It sounds like they have a good snowpack and its been a wet spring. There will be a park of some caliber there. The Beartooths are one of the best summer areas. Im an hour from Timberline but I would rather drive 13 hours extra and ski some steeps.

What is the actual camp? Most people there are doing race or bump training. Anyone can buy a lift ticket and ski and ride the park. There is talk of a big mountain comp. http://www.modroo.com/bbc.html

Place looks so dope. Seems like it's in the middle of nowhere though. Maybe since I just don't hear about it too often it seems like a ghost town.

hey guys glad to hear there is some interest here on newschoolers. I run the park up on the pass. we are open from memorial day through the 4th of july. season passes are 185 but you only have untill the 15th of this month to get them. day passes are 45 and half day are 25. if you plan on skiing park and shredding the chutes half day usually works the best it doesnt really get soft untill 11 anyway and you can get plenty of shred in. if anyone has any questions you can pm me and I will get you all the info you need.
Tecnically im not suposed to post about this in any threads because other camps pay good money for advertising here on newschoolers and we just dont have the budget for that. but i figure if im just answering your question its ok so keep them comming.

It sort of is, but Red Lodge is actually a super cool town. The Beartooths might also be the coolest place I have ever been, I've spent the past few years exploring the plateau between the pass and Cooke City and it's an absurdly crazy mountain range. I won't be up for skiing this year because of work, but I'll be doing another 40-70 mile trip across the range at the end of the summer again to do some fishing and exploring. Anyone who hasn't visited the area should definitely put it on their to do list!

A few more reasons you should really check out the Beartooths.  These pics are ancient (2002ish but give you an idea of Montana backcountry in the spring/summer)

The 1st Annual Beartooth Summer Sessions will be happening June 25 and 26.


Saturday June 25 Big Mountain Comp
Junior riders (ages 12-17) ski 3 judged runs. After the junior division is over, riders in the open division will get to lap the headwall for the remainder of the afternoon. The best three runs will be judged.

Sunday June 26 Park jam.
Riders go head to head in timed heats, judges pick the advancing riders until there is a winner. There will be a juniors division for riders between the ages of 12 and 17 and an open division for those over 18.


ON3P Skis will be there with most of our line, hosting a free demo.

ON3P Skis will be giving a 50% off discount to the person who writes the best trip report during that weekend. The winner will be chosen by the ski area operators.

You can do one of the comps if you would like.

The park jam is a rail jam format through the whole park. The park is short so it is tough to link many features in your run but it is very easy to make quick hot laps (easy 5 minute lap with no lines, I don't know how the crowds will be over the weekend but the laps should be quick)

The park jam will be set up for everyone to lap the park for a set amount of time, the judges determine who will announce to the next round and continue eliminating participants until there is a winner. The amount of rounds, and length of rounds will be dependent on how many competitors there are.

The area is mostly in Wyoming, a small portion goes into Montana at the bottom. It seems like most people refer to it as a Montana area, probably because most people stay in Montana, and the area is based out of Montana.

The road is still closed. One of the owners told me that in the past 25 years there has only been one other year that the road hasn't opened on Memorial Day. The snow is really deep and I've heard there are some lines filled in that haven't been skiable in 10 years. The road is supposed to open on June 11 last I heard.

Tons of snow and it keeps snowing, got another foot and a half this week. I just got of 3, 12 hour days working up there getting things ready. both lifts are running and we have a new fleet of rails ready to go. now we just need to make the park. more updates will be comming as I get more time but honestly its been nonstop trying to get this thing going.

I was up there yesterday - there was a down-flat round bar and a flat-down round bar, and also a flat rail. There was the small jump in that vid. and a bigger, unfinished (hard to say how big it'll end up being.. maybe 50 feet?) jump. The skiing above the park was good too once the snow softened up a bit.

It's a lot of fun. Next weekend should be sick.
