Need a mechanic's estimate

I found a sweet 88' T-top Iroc, 350 5-speed with only 71k miles on the motor/tranny, seems like a great deal (Love iroc's, even with the redneck stereotype). The car cosmetically has one minor bubble on the l/r quater but other than that it's very nice. The car is advertised for $4,500 but a few things need to be done so I want to negotiate the price. The seller says it needs:

Tune-up
Break pads
Rotors
Slave clutch cylinder


I have $5,500 saved for this car but i really don't/can't spend all of it because i need register and pay the taxes too. My dad and I will probably do the breaks and slave clutch cylinder so i need a price for parts on that. But i'l get the tune done proffesionally so what do they run for?

why don't you bring it to an actual local mechanic instead asking newschoolers " mechanics" ( otherwise known as kids whos answer to everything is sti)

MY dad's 2 cents

he says that it will cost around $1000 to fix. he says it depends if you fix it yourself or not. he says to watch out because the the clutch may be completely broken. if you are serious about buying it ask the guy if you can take it to a mechanic, se if anything extra is wrong with it ( it may cost you a bit of cash).

but realy go to a mechanic, its going to cost about 50 bucks but at least you get a real price. not a bunch of spoiled brats who gets skis and t2i's from their mom and have no notion of value.

but seriously i can't help you, ask a real mechanic, or if you want to ask a forum try a forum dedicated to the car/car forum in general.
