I'm looking for a car! need opinions (older cars)

I've been driving around my families toyota highlander for the past six months while i make enough money to buy my own. I have $5,500 as of now and I'm looking for a new whip. I'm thinking older camaro's but i don't know much about them. More muscle type of cars no ricers at all. Any suggestions in a reasonable price range please!

not sure if you will find a camaro from the 80s or earlier for 5500. and dont get a 90s camaro , those things are ugly as shit IMO

i fucking hate ls1 comaros. its such a stupid fucking white trash redneck but they are so fucking fast. its seriously not fair. you are all like "yeah im a cool guy in a fast car!" and then one of those comes up blasting lynrd skynrd and destroys you, light to light, 40 roll, whatever, you can try to make yourself feel better by telling myself they cant read and have no teeth, but it doesnt help very much at all.

iroc camaro's are the shit, yeah they are kinda lame, but camaros in general are about as redneck/rocker as you can get, buy one and blast 80's metal all day.

that or if you want an actual good car get an e30, 190e or audi 90.

love t-tops even though they're notorious for leaking if you don't replace the weather stripping. Manual 5 speed 119,000 miles (a bit high).



just found this one but osmetically it needs some work. The left front fender has a 2 inch dent, not a big deal. The rear right quarter needs some work he said. The only thing im really worried about is he said the right door needs to be "pulled". Not exactly sure what he means by "pulled" and on the r/r quarter it "needs work". He's emailing me more pics tomorrow but other than that seems solid.

I recently acquired a 1990 Subaru Legacy with about 210xxx miles for $1300 which my dad and I are making it into a rally/off road rig as a project. We havent lifted it or done anything major at all yet, but I just got some rally tires and wheels and threw on an old roof rack...looks pretty sweet even without a lift, floodlights, mudflaps, ect. Here are some pictures from this weekend...I strongly suggest an older Scubie.

i just bought a fucked up one a few months ago, rebuilt it and put it on the road. it is so much fucking fun. mine is a red 92 325i convertible, its really not very fast but its so much fun to drive. its so sick, today some old guy pulled up next to me at a light and he was in a red e46 325i convertible and he just looked over and gave me the thumbs up, and the other day i saw another guy in a grey e30 and he flashed his lights and honked and waved out the window and we were best friends forever. im gonna slam it and turbo it and just cruise around and beat kids in STI's their dads bought them.


basically just get one, mine was $1800 with 85k on it and some front end damage that i repaired with pick-n-pull parts for $150, for $5500 im confident you could build an e30 that would be just fucking ballistic fast. camaros wouldn't stand a chance.

hahah i used to hate on slammed cars and then i met this kid at school with a perfectly drivable slammed car, like it still turns and works and everything, its not as gay as you think.


but how mad does that make you? just think about it, im ruining a perfectly good relatively classic car.

90s camaros are sick if you got the V8s or Ls1

80s irocs are white trash.

I had a buddy that had a 90s LS1 camaro that he just beat the fuck out of, replaced the engine twice cus he blew it up. He would always rev the fuck out of it and do burnouts in the school lot. He was kind of a fag but the sound of that engine is pure sex.

Better yet look for a pre 80s or 80 trans am. Those things are the fucking boss. And with $5000, you can really throw a little money into the engine to make that thing unstoppable. older chevy 350 smallblock + 2k in parts = 400-500 ponies naturally aspirated.

Like others have said get a bmw e30 if you want a great car over just having an american muscle car. and with 5500 it'll go along way as long as you learn to do easy work on it yoursef.

99 vw jetta pictured below, you can even go older, i have a 95 jetta with 75,000 miles and its gona run for another 100,000 at least.

Honda civic is also another smart choice. Personally i wouldn't go with a muscle car, they generally get pretty bad gas mileage and with gas prices at 4 and up most places i wouldn't want a gas hog. It's up to you.

e30's are cool and all but the camaro the OP bought is fucking DOPE. i would rock that any day over my e30. i mean come on, v8? check. fat tires? check. flat black paint? motherfucking check. i would download a shitton of 80's metal and country music and route the exhaust out the front fenderwells and just drive around spitting flames and doing burnouts.

Are you kidding? Manual VW's are some of the best built cars. We have a 95 vw that has had only minor repairs, and a 2004 VW TDI this car is absolutely amazing, nothing major to date an amazing gas mileage.

youre arguing with the wrong person. Mk3 jetta are a different beast than mk 5. Mark 5 jetta have a checklist of known issues. BEW motors from the tdi have suspect cylinder heads/ turbos, park brake cables, rear axle bushings, sway bar bushings, timing belt intervals, leak oil from lower intercooler pipes, glow plug harnesses.... the list goes on and on.

90 percent of high mileage mk5 jettas i touch i can find 5 things wrong with mechanical or service history wise.

I live in Europe, specifically Norway and most everyone drives a VW, Volvo or other German car. These cars are tanks, you certainly have a little bit of a more professional background...

ah cool, you get to see some of the cooler vw's then. Over here in canada, I can literally rape a customer at will if they own a mark 4, its so very easy. They just have parts that constantly fail on every single car.... and timing belts need to be done like clockwork. Passats are even worse.

Volvo Amazone STW, double Carburetor, Matt black with Hollywood tires(white tires). It's cheap, big enough to have skis and sleep in for longer trips. Best part is, you will get so much tail you don't know what to do with it all!

nice choice on the car but please dont slam it. buy some rusty VW for 500 bucks put ironic stickers on it and slam it if you just want attention. all the mexicans and hipsters will think its wiked sick.
how bout put that money into some kinda roll bar/half cage, even full cage, some HR race springs, poly bushings, sway bars and a good set of tires and there ya go, 1000 dollars in mods on top of the car and you have the funnest car you can buy for under 20k, other than a miata...

get a porsche 928 theyre amazingly fast and i got mine for $8000. but they are hard to find in a manual and expensive to maintain but not as expensive as a 911.
