Replying to Can I get away with Marker Griffon Schizos?
I've been rocking a pair of 07/08 K2 Seth's in 189cm for a few years now (since the 07/08 unsurprisingly!). I've loved these skis but they're a bit knackered so I'm now looking to pick up a new pair of skis and I'm pretty set on the 10/11 obSETHed, again in 189cm. I've found a pair at a really good price but they come with Marker Griffon Schizos with a max DIN of 12. I like the idea of the Schizos for maximising versatility but I'd really be more comfortable with the Jester Schizos (up to DIN 16). If I want to get Jesters then I'll be looking at waiting until next season and having to spend about £170 (UK) more which I'd REALLY like to avoid!
Now, the bindings on my current skis are just an old pair of Marker M12s (max DIN 12 as well). I'm about 90kgs and I ride them at around 11 which I know a lot of people claim is a bad idea, being pretty close to the maximum, but I haven't had any problems with them. My question is really: is it actually all that bad to do this? Some people claim that it is, others say that, when a binding is maxed out the spring actually still has a fair bit of unused travel inside the binding and it won't cause any harm. Can anyone give me any advice?
