Can I get away with Marker Griffon Schizos?

I've been rocking a pair of 07/08 K2 Seth's in 189cm for a few years now (since the 07/08 unsurprisingly!). I've loved these skis but they're a bit knackered so I'm now looking to pick up a new pair of skis and I'm pretty set on the 10/11 obSETHed, again in 189cm. I've found a pair at a really good price but they come with Marker Griffon Schizos with a max DIN of 12. I like the idea of the Schizos for maximising versatility but I'd really be more comfortable with the Jester Schizos (up to DIN 16). If I want to get Jesters then I'll be looking at waiting until next season and having to spend about £170 (UK) more which I'd REALLY like to avoid!
Now, the bindings on my current skis are just an old pair of Marker M12s (max DIN 12 as well). I'm about 90kgs and I ride them at around 11 which I know a lot of people claim is a bad idea, being pretty close to the maximum, but I haven't had any problems with them. My question is really: is it actually all that bad to do this? Some people claim that it is, others say that, when a binding is maxed out the spring actually still has a fair bit of unused travel inside the binding and it won't cause any harm. Can anyone give me any advice?

You will be fine with the griffons if the m12's have worked for you. What I would say though is dont get the scitzos if you can help it. There nowhere near as solid as a regular binding and there are so many differnt parts, that this season I have spent so much time fixing them. Get a standard griifion or jester, or any other binding for that matter. Its not like you will want to change you stance on an obsethed much any way, your not going to be using that ski in the park as well as powder so moving the bindings is not a big deel.

Thanks very much for the info. Unfortunately, my only options are to get the 10/11 obSETHed with the Schizos or leave them and get the 11/12, which is only a cosmetic update, for £170ish more next year. Are the Schizos that bad? Have you been using the 10/11 ones? I would like the movement to slide them forward for backcountry kickers but, if they're that bad for durability, I'll give them a miss.

Schizos are fine but there's not much point putting them on a new Seth which are very much a powder ski so you won't move the binding much, if ever. Your old bindings are fine on 11. Unless you are currently having release or retention problems with those just keep them and save cash. Or sell them and get some other bindings cheap.

Unfortunately the heel pieces on my old bindings are starting to make a break for freedom as the runners are lifting so there's a lot of play in them. The other issue is that the deal I've found (and seemingly the only obSETHed's left in stock in the UK in 189) is packaged with the Schizo. The Schizo insert comes fitted to the ski when the supplier receives them from K2 so it's pretty much Schizo or nothing. What do you guys reckon? It basically works out that I could get the ski and Griffon Schizo binding now for the same price, maybe even a little less, as I could get just the ski (next year's but it's identical in all but graphic) come the start of next season. This sounds good to me UNLESS the bindings are going to fall to pieces.

By "Schizo or nothing" I meant it's either the ski with Griffon Schizos or no ski at all.
