well yea, It's incredibly difficult to enforce. But what's happened is there have been a number of online ride share programs that have been shut down in Ontario because of it.  And almost exclusively because of bus companies. And that's going so far as the bus companies sueing them for taking away business.. and winning.

notice how the divergence started when demand went up?? as more developing countries started drinking oil like americans?
also, all the low hanging fruit has been plucked. the oil that was relatively easy to get to has been pumped at this point. my enviro econ teacher likened the situation to how you go through a tube of tooth paste- at first its easy, you just squeeze and it comes out. as you get closer to the end you have to work a little harder. til finally, getting the last little bit takes a lot more work, rolling the tube up, squeezing harder etc.

demand continues to go up, and the supply continues to go down. meanwhile oil companies are posting record profits.

my personal feeling is that we need gas to get more expensive. to pay for the externalities of production, to encourage development of other energy sources, and frankly-because people dont change with out pain.

finally, the portion of oil that actually goes to toward fuel is a very small percentage.

that article sucked too guy. ramblings about the fed for a page with the final paragraph half-assed linking it to $7/gallon gas. no wonder no one takes those jokers seriously.

Thats the problem. This bullshit recovery in the economy (and rally in everything including stocks) is BECAUSE of the fed devaluing the dollar. If you raise interest rates and tighten policy the dollar will appreciate and EVERYTHING will sell off KILLING the economy. If you Dont tighten policy gas will go to 6-7-8/gallon and KILL the economy.

Either way we are all fucked and you can thank obama for running such huge deficits and for not firing Ben Bernanke which has made all of this possible.

4.25 is cheap where i live....45 minutes north of nyc where i live for regular im paying between 4.20-4.50. When i do high test its almost 5.00

On that note....

Anyone want to buy a 2006 Subaru Outback Impreza.. 90k on it but only 1 owner and it runs like a champ! Still gets around 30 mpg.

I am very seriously considering getting rid of my car. I'd have around $500 a month extra to spend on a taxi or private car should I need it.

I can fly roundtrip to mammoth 4 times a month with $500... and thats really the only reason I've kept the car.

since demand is at an all time high, its the perfect time to start drilling for Oil here in the U.S.....I understand we should take care of the planet, but I fail to see the reasoning in the argument that it is ok to import oil from another country but it is bad to drill for oil here in America. Either way we are still using oil whether it comes from our soil or some other land at a higher price.  Doesnt make sense if you ask me.

"supply" has not exploded in the last 110 years. this is a finite resource. I didnt claim production went down, but that supply has and will continue to do so.

What should happen is the government put a $5/litre tax on gas used for cars, that way no one will want to drive and in a few years most people will be using alternative methods of transportation that won't destroy our environment.  At that point, would you rather spend $5 to drive to the movie theatre or spend 15 minutes and bike.  But only have the tax on non-commercial fuel so it doesn't drive inflation nearly as fast.

^ and not charge the extra tax to transportation companies. That way they'd be all over the place and cheap, easy carpooling would dominate, there would be no such thing as a traffic jam anymore as 1/3 the cars would be on the road. I mean just look in cars at rush hour. 85% have only 1 person sitting insde a car that can seat 5-7. And they're all going the exact same place, from the suburbs to their work in the city (at least in this town).

You're good-minded, but you're thinking in the extremes. Public transportation (and definitely not using a damn bicycle) does not serve all needed utilities properly, it would be a very difficult and even more stressful life in the rat race if you think about households bigger than one person and everything related to the time needed and spent.

The lifestyle around us needs to change before we can.
