greedy effers who own oil companies. Take Canada, Libya causes our gas to go up like 30 cents/litre. that gas I'm putting in my tank? It doesn't even come from there!  plus we have more than enough from our own country to meet all our needs. so why is it when supply completely unrelated to ours gets disrupted, our gas price jumps 30%?? god damn gay. that's why it would be nice for Petro Canada to still be owned by the government to help control prices. Stupid mulroney

Gas is so expensive because the Federal Reserve is printing a shit ton of money and destroying the purchasing power of the dollar. It's not just gas prices that are rising, it's everything. Food prices, metals and essentially all commodities are rising in price. Quantitative easing and government spending is the problem.

you are so absolutely wrong.

In United States, the average tax on gas is 48.1 cents/gallon.

Meaning Exxon is making $4/gallon. And considering they own the well, the pumping equipment, the pipelines, the refinery, the tankers, the gas stations, and absolutely everything along the way; they are making a large percentage of profit on that. You just have to look at their $383 billion revenue to see that. With, wait for it, only $53 billion in operating costs.

there's nothing more wrong that what you said about them making 7 cents/gallon.




In Canada it's between 16-30 cents/litre + sales tax. So the average litre is maybe 30 cents to government, 1$ to oil companies.

Fuck that. I haven't looked at a gas station since Sunday, and I paid $3.87 or something ridiculous. Fuck paying over $4.

If the value of the dollar is going down, and prices of everything are going up, why the fuck are my wages staying the same? There needs to be some equilibrium in this.

Good observation. But it is also speculation and having everyone by the balls.Day to day fluctuation occur because of spec , not dollar devaluation but long term that is driving it yes, its driving everything.

There are good reasons why speculators are weary of gasoline. It is not just like the speculators randomly decide to target a certain industry/product and screw it over. The shitty dollar is why prices are rising. The speculators are right in their assessment.

Choosing an area to live in that has everything you need in biking distance or choosing an area with great public transportation is really all that matters now in my opinion. Gas prices are going to do nothing but increase and I think people's choices in where they live are starting to reflect that or will start to reflect that very soon. The department of transportation has a HUGE issue on their hands and are currently faced with hundreds of towns and cities whose public transportation and integrated design programs are non-existent or lacking and that's going to be increasingly what people demand.

because it's significantly more expensive to harvest oil from clay or sands. It is also more expensive to pump oil here. Once oil reaches a certain price it will be economically profitable for the US to produce more oil but if prices were to drop again these companies that spring up on US soil would go out of business, potentially causing a recessionary pressure

Lets run through something really quick. Dollar Deflates. This leads our exports to become cheaper for other countries to buy and our imports more expensive. We export more due to a higher demand, bringing currency flow back into the nation and stimulating more domestic producers to export product due to a larger profit.(hey if we are being really optimistic lets say some outsourced businesses return to our soil) We import less due to increased import prices (sorry VW & mercedes-benz). importing less means more money stays domestic and our NX is a greater positive number.

i say fuckyeah to high gas prices. maybe people will wise up to the mileage on their vehicles instead of those pointless fucking safety ratings and other arbitrary shit that doesn't help you in any way. higher gas prices = smarter consumers = better cars. the actual price might go up, but if you drive a car that gets good mileage you will not even give a fuck.

What were you buying that used premium? Just curious haha.The other day I was getting premium for my dirt bike and I put 20 bucks in and couldn't even fill my 5 gallon gas can. I only got like a little over 4 gallons. It does suck.

I've always found it curious how, here in Canada, gas has been more expensive than water for a long time. Canada has a huge amount of fresh water, and yet a bottle of water costs more than the equivalent in gas.

I think that buying bottled water is retarded, but that's a different topic entirely. It's just funny how something like gas, which is way harder to produce is cheeper than water, and yet no one is bitching about the price of water.

in the uk it has gone up like 30p in the last year, now its £1.29-£1.36($2.18) for petrol and £1.35-£1.43($2.28) for diesel for a litre, which is a fucking joke, insurance is even worse, it cost my friend £3100 to get insured on a 12 year old ford zetec 1.2, which is just stupid money.
