I take classes on that all the time, and I have done field observation here in milwaukee, trust me I am not naive, this city is a money pit and has nothing to show for it. I was just responding to the comment that somebody made that ron paul thinks "it would be more efficient in the private sector" I didn't ever hear Paul say that, but if he did he is a fucking moron. First of all, there is a reason we have had public schools for the last hundred or more years.
I went to a private school, and I know that they usually have better grades, but it really is not because they have better teachers. Private school teachers make a whole lot less than public, and unless the teacher is a serious Jesus freak, the best teachers will go to the places where they get paid the most.
The reason that private schools do so much better (brace for what will sound like racism) is that they are mostly white and suburban, their parents are paying for them to go to school, and going to college (which requires decent grades) becomes a norm for cyclical reasons (parents go to private schools, go to college, afford private schools for their kids) Also, students who have friends that are getting good grades will get better grades than the kid who is surrounded by kids who don't give a shit in a crowded urban school.
Off track, what I am getting at is that as a future teacher, especially in milwaukee wisconsin, I know of the waste and trumoil, but the notion of freezing federal funding is absolutely insane, turning something like that over to private sector would cause riots, if people thought that was a shitshow...... It would just never ever happen.
