Indeed - keep it simple and "classy" , no brands - look through your local thrift store or as a cheaper alternative( to j crew ) checkout old navy or the gap

j crew is a great reasonably priced suggestion. H&M is good if you're really scraping, but their shit falls apart within a season or two

i got some really nice volcom slimmer fit cords and some khakis from a skate store. they have some pretty nice stuff if you look around or have a friend that works there.
