Time out, you are gay? I knew that arabian was gay, but not you, interesting. And I have gay friends that are absolutely flaming, and I know others that you wouldn't know they were gay unless they told you (or you were really good looking and had 2 testicles). I don't know I think that a lot of the over the top super gay people are trying too hard, and I get what you mean.

On the other hand, some of them are just that way, they were kinda girly even at an age where sex (straight or gay) is just really not on their minds at all. I will say that I don't really get cross dressing or transgender people, not that I judge, I just don't really get it. But as far as gay guys acting flamboyant, I feel like straight guys would too if there wasn't such a crazy archetype pounded into our brains as to how a man acts and how a woman acts since we are brought home from the hospital in either a blue or pink hat.

If there is anybody who would be the first to go against the stereotypical male archetype (and who wanted to, again, i know gay guys that are not flamboyant at all) it would be openly gay men. If they already lack the most prevalent male stereotype/ attribute (that we love pussy), and they are out of the closet, then they can go against or adhere to whatever other stereotype they want, homophobes will hate them whether they act like liberachi or just your average joe, because in the end the only thing that truly defines a man is a Y chromosone (again, why I don't really understand transgender, especially when they turn their pole into a hole).

for each members of your own sex and members of the opposite sex, and then asks you to rate somewhere between very much and not at all your:

It is like a psychology test, not like a face book "how gay are you, take the test and see your friends scores" type of thing.

I hear what you're saying and I agree with you partly. Yes there are plenty of gay people that would were feminine even from a young age. I just feel that after getting over done for years, and being show as the primary stereotype, that there are just as many gay people working to fit into the flamer stereotype as there are straight guys trying hard to fit into the man stereotype.

I'm tired of stupid girls trying to get me to go shopping with them. It's a sexual attraction not a culture. I mean yes there are probably more similarities between gay guys and gay guys, then gay guys and straight guys as a whole, but still. I think the way it's perceived still plays a big role. You realize you are something that many people still hate, people tell you you're going to hell, people get beat up over it, all kinds of shit. You're an outcast in away. At that point you stick together in a group. You dive head first into the "gay culture"
I think anytime that happens not just in this particular spot you lose your own identity.

I just feel like if as a society we were more open minded, people would be more likely to be themselves. In other countries it's alright for men to be a little less manly man. They don't have a problem with it, but nobody accuses them of being gay.

I'm gay because I've always had a sexual attraction to guys ever since I hit that age. Never had that attraction to a girl. I hate shopping, I don't have the same musical taste as a 13 year old girl, flailing my wrist around and all that.

Oh trust me, I know what you are saying about people overdoing it, just look at san fransisco. Somehow gay rights parade should not equal a bunch of men acting as girly and strange as possible. I get that they are trying to get in homophobe's faces, but fighting fire with flaming doesn't seem to be advancing the equality and rights as much as it does the gay party scene in san fran, which has lead to a horrible HIV rate in the club community there. Admitedly, parades are a little off track here, but I think it is a pig part of what is the PUBLIC image of the homosexual, just like rap and gang violence became the PUBLIC image of the black, when really it represents a small fraction.

I don't know. I must say I am glad I am a straight, white, male born into a family that isn't broke, I just hope things keep getting better for the homosexuals at a rate equal to or faster than it is right now. Things still are far from perfect, but it has moved faster than the womens civil rights did, and WAY faster than the black civil rights did historically.

True. And i hear you with the pride parades. I guess it brings the issue to the front and stuff but you won't catch me at one. And it isn't because I'm mad about who I am, it's just isn't me. And I'm not really "proud" to be gay. I'm not ashamed of who I am in anyway, but I don't feel I'm special.

I just wish things like that and race weren't an issue, that at some point we could get past it, but Idk if we will. I'm not saying people will still hate each other and be mean and all that, although highly likely. Saying that even if we get past that we will still most likely have problems. People are tolerant these days but still racist in a way. Actually tolerance in the way we have it has sort of continued racism.Going so far to be excepting that we actually are making a point to judge people.

Like the cover of a catalog. There will be a white guy and girl, an asian, and a black. They go out of there way to include a percentage of each race on the different pages.

There are stereotypes and then there are trends. How many black people have you seen in the lift line at your local mountain? I have seen a few when I have gone out to colorado, but I think I have seen 1, MAYBE 2 when skiing in the UP of michigan.

I'm willing to guess that half the guys out there that said they got a 1 were either lying or cheated on the test. While it's easy to divide sexuality into three categories straight/bi/gay, any of those categories has a pretty wide range. I would say that most people up to 4 or 5 on this scale would consider themselves exclusively straight, and like 9 or above gay even if it hints at bisexual tendencies. I would be interested to see what someone who is truly bi would score on this.

As for myself, I'm gay and I got a 9.5, not quite as high as I was expecting.

I’m a psychology major and actually learned about this scale a couple weeks ago. The "gay scale" in psychology has nothing to do with flamboyancy. It’s pretty much different levels of emotional attractiveness and sexual attractiveness. There are people out there who are married and love their wives, yet go out and cheat with other men. Now this person has an emotional attraction to females but has a sexual attraction to both males and females, meaning he is less gay then someone who is both physically and emotionally attracted to only men. According to my psychology of human sexuality teacher, this scale/idea has started to be implemented because the cut and dry/gay or straight labeling can cause mental confusion in some "gay" individuals. The confusion can be detrimental to that individual’s mental health. This less cut and dry idea about homosexuality makes it easier for people to decide if they are gay or straight.
