Glidecam vs. tripod

i, like the rest of ns, got a t2i, and also like the rest of ns didn't have enough money to buy a full setup right away.
I have a job for spring, but might not for summer. I am working on getting some better glass, but it looks like i won't have the money this spring to get a glidecam and a tripod as well.

This summer i am going to be filming a lot of whitewater kayaking, climbing and biking.

So, what would you recommend i pick up this spring? whichever one i don't get now i will probably get later on


after seeing glidecam stuff, and this i'm leaning towards glidecam

I would say tripod. You can always use the tripod as a sort of makeshift ghetto-glidecam. It will help you keep things at least relatively stable. But you know more how you plan on shooting than i do

Hmm you said rafting, climbing and biking. I dont know about rafting and biking but climbing seems like pretty stagnant shooting. You have to think about how you will be filming, do you intend on being in the raft, moving along with them, or will you be on the side filming them go by. If you intend on moving a lot while you shoot, obviously go cam, but I feel like filming for those three will likely be sideline filming, so I would probably say tripod.

why?

are you planning on running alongside the river shooting kayaking? Riding in a kiddie carrier getting towed down some single track? Hanging from a harness on a rock face?

If you answered yes to any of those then a Glidecam is the obvious winner.

You realize that in the video they are using bit glidecam setups right? not just the handheld one.

It is 100% shot with just the 4000 pro handheld

I owned a glidecam 2000 and didnt like it as much as my tripod for follows. Felt I do better with it, plus you always have it already rigged up in case you want to post up somewhere...

um why dont you watch my follows before you criticize? They turn out just fine. Why spend a lot of money on a Glidecam if you dont need one

Just get a mono pod for like ten bucks at target and use that. Thats what I have been doing. I'll post a test if you want.
