Skrillex.. Is it worth it?

Today i realized that skrillex is touring not too far from me, I have never seen him live and I would rather not waiste my money if his live performances are'nt anything special. I have appreciation for his music but it seems that he uses a repiditive sound a lot more than any other artist i've been following recently.
So the question is.. Save up for a Camp Bisco ticket or spend another 25 dollars to catch him live?

Who has seen him live before?

All this musical elitism is stupid, you can't hate on any artist or group of artists for doing their own thing. Rusko himself is out of line for saying people took it too far, because they can do whatever the fuck they want.

If you can enjoy the music.... Its good.

Brostep has its place, its not ruining dubstep its just another direction.

hmmmm for me skrillex and, datsik,flux... are not heavy. Its just this noisy high frequency wobbles and tunes that hurts to my ears.

Not heavy shit: noisy, but not heavy. I guess its a matter of opinion, but I feel nothing from this track whereas the ones above are pretty powerful to me. It's def. not even in the same vein as skrillex, etx..., thats why we just can't call the above stuff dubstep. If whompers want the word, fine. I'll be gettin down to bass music all day, who cares what its called? We could end the What is Dubstep debate if we just let them have the damn word haha

Your post is pretty confusing. Those top 2 vids are "real" dubstep, if thats what your trying to argue. Emotionless and boring as fuck(IMO), but they follow the guidelines. Skrillex is electro-house/brostep, emphasis on the electro-house.

Like you said, its all opinion. Id pick Skrillex over what you posted, but Id pick PANTyRAID/MartyParty, MiM0SA, Zedd's, Nero or Flux over Skrillex any day.

ohhhh hell no you didn't just say that. i've stayed out of this retarded, pointless argument for a while but i can't let that slide. true, skrillex uses a lot of synths and faster bpm (140ish) but he is faaarrrr from electro-house or anything else house related.

SKRILLEX IS A DUBSTEP ARTIST. WHY DO I THINK THIS? BECAUSE THE GENRE IS NOW WIDER THAN BRITTNEY SPEARS VAGINA. if you want to put him in a sub-genre, do it. skrillex is now "metalstep". you can put Feed Me, Downlink, Excision and other crappy artists looking to make a buck off this craze as well.

people are saying he's like the original sound of dubstep. alright, that's very true. but look at other genres of today; they're constantly evolving. the "rock" that's getting put out now is nothing like the "rock" that was being produced 5 years ago. same with hip-hop, pop, country, soul, jazz, ect. artist are always stretching genres and taking music in different directions, that's what makes music so amazing.

what people fail to realize (what I failed to realize for a long time) is that these tracks are made to be put into DJ sets, plain and simple. That is why they have a predictable structure. Most dubstep tracks were never meant to stand on their own. take a track like Cockney Thug by Rusko, you all know it. He said in an interview that track was written to be the start to a set. A simple intro that dropped quick and let him get into his set. Listen to it from a musical standpoint, and it is absolutely absurd.

What I think I am trying to get across is that a track is just that, a track. It is not a song until a DJ gets his hands on it. It is up to the DJ to create the soundscape, the layers, the emotions. The reason those tracks are so emotional for me is because I have heard them as part of a mix. Dig a little deeper and you will realize this is how it is for almost any genre of electronic music. Skrillex I guess is trying to do something different, since he comes from a background of writing songs, not tracks.

So I understand if you haven't seen a ton of DJs mix, you would just want to go and hear the songs off the album, but DJing is an art far beyond just playing tracks, or even songs, its about putting together a unique experience for the audience, with thoughtful mixes that you just won't hear at a Skrillex show.

That was the least argumentative way I could put my position. I hope it made some sense haha

it is amazing that this thread is still going. I could see something of important debate such as political policy or government going on for 5 pages. but a thread about dubstep music and what is and is not "dubstep" based on personal opinions? very entertaining.

House bpm's are usually 125-135. Four kicks per bar. Listen to either of the tracks I posted or pretty much anything before his Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP and it should fit most of the characteristics of house genres.

Dubstep (or call it brostep if you like, though I'm not gonna get in that argument) is usually around 140, with a kick on the first beat and snare on the third. So yeah, Skrillex's recent stuff falls into this category but he definitely didn't start off producing dubstep. He's evolved towards it from electro-house or even progressive house roots.

Not trying to stir things up. Just a point of clarification.

So I bought a ticket to the concert at the Webster theater in Hardford (June 6th) and was going with all of my friends from the mountain and a few from mt snow, but due to two of them trying to rip me off with weed, not talking to me since and telling people that I tried to rob them, I no longer have anyone to go with... or ski with next year besides my gaper friends. Keep in mind that the two are my neighbors who I've always been super chill with. Backstabbed. /rant

But anyways, now that I'm pretty sure all the tickets are sold out, anyone want to buy my ticket?

-okay, it's one of the originals, but that doesn't make it the only type that is true dubstep. Skrillex is friends with Skream and then and Skream even calls Skrilly's music dubstep....why? cause he isn't an ignorant fuck like half the people in this thread.

and just cause you like the original sound better, doesn't make the new era of DUBSTEP (not brostep) less eligible to be in the genre.

but i was drugged up so i loved every second of it. diplo played a 900x better set after skrilly though.
