Skrillex.. Is it worth it?

Today i realized that skrillex is touring not too far from me, I have never seen him live and I would rather not waiste my money if his live performances are'nt anything special. I have appreciation for his music but it seems that he uses a repiditive sound a lot more than any other artist i've been following recently.
So the question is.. Save up for a Camp Bisco ticket or spend another 25 dollars to catch him live?

Who has seen him live before?

yep, i saw him a month or so ago and everyone i knew was there, it was crazy night. it was pretty much a rave though so bring drank or drugs.

Bunch of kids at my school skipped winter formal to go to skrillex and the kids that went to winter formal regretted not going.

Don't waste your money going to see a shitty dubstep artist like skrillex, if you ever get the opportunity though definitely go see someone like magnetic man (skream and benga togeather) or doorly

I'm sorry but if people make a thread about a dubstep artist, is it wise to try to sway us away from a genre we clearly like and calling it shitty?

Would telling the SS that dictatorships suck and democracy is better prove that you are right and all of a sudden everyone changes their minds? Why not make a thread promoting this music... I love skrillex and do plan on going to his concert, not some magnetic man shit that I could probably play on wind chimes.

You do realize I said he is a shitty artist and then posted a dubstep song that is amazing as well as named some much better producers of dubstep....so I'm not really sure how that comes out as me saying dubstep is shitty...but okay

First of all, twenty five bucks for a show is not expensive, but more related, I hope you have a better cash flow than you're leading us to believe if going to this show is going to hinder you buying a camp ticket. Anyways, in my opinion, skrillex is mehh. As for a life performance, he essentially plays of his laptop, maybe a little loop here and there, but you're just paying to see that shit real loud. Bottom line. He's not that good. But its 25 bucks. Just go.

ahahhahah so true. Skrillex is not dubstep. It's worse then brostep. If you like getting screamed at straight in your ears for 3 hours yeah go to skrillex. If you want to hear real dubstep check out datsik, bar 9, skream, benga, the widdler, etc...fuck mid range wobbles

i went to a skrillex concert last winter and IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!! Its not just dubstep, listen to "kill everybody" it is one of my favorite techno songs of all time

skrillex is blows, in my opinion. it's pretty much emo screaming but in place of a screaming voice he's using dubstep noises. And i hate emo screaming. his music doesn't go through movements, he just puts a lot of noise together and barely lets the music breathe.

lets take this song for example, personally I like more of house/tech house, but regardless between the beginning and the first 40 seconds I'm like okay... this song sounds pretty sick I guess...then comes 41 seconds and I feel like I may become the next unabomber.

Haha, I love that drop. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I definitely wouldn't lump him into the same category as Datsik, Skream, Benga and such, Scatta is the only dub track he has on SM&NS.

maybe this is true if you like middle schoolers "raging" cause they're drinking or doing drugs for the first time.  i don't like dubstep but i definitely don't hate it because i appreciate the ability of any artist/dj to be able to get thousands of people movin.  start listening to house and go to a club/festival and you'll soon realize how wrong your statement is

I've been to a good number of shows across a broad range of genres, and Rusko was hands down the most intense, rage-your-face-off, wetter than water show I've experienced.

there is some good dubstep out there, don't generalize dubstep into one category when it can be done in so many different ways. for example, there is a large difference between a song like bassnecter &datsik's "YES" and that stupid ass skrillex song that was posted above. good dubstep usually is a deference off dub roots with crazy electronics built up after, where as most shitty dubstep comes from only crazy electronic sounds with no base in dub besides the doubletime drum beat.

Yeah, I just meant most touring DJ's don't use Ableton... And you should try going to a good DJ set sometime, its pretty awesome, not that I would expect a ton of people on here to be into it enough to know who to go see... I am happy to give some retrogradations though! haha

this. there are dj's that actually do stuff on stage (RJD2 for example) but just look at that skrillex video. hes literally just standing there most of the time. why would you pay to see that?

I respect your opinion. However I don't think that music needs to "breathe", especially in a rave-type situation. Don't get me wrong, I love artists and genres that have "feeling" and "soul" and whatnot in their work (I usually prefer folksy stuff over electronic music), however Skrillex is just there to make something that get's people moving and having a good time. And I have to say, in that respect, he certainly delivers.

this is where i disagree with you...in my opinion what gets people moving the most naturally is a gradual build of melody and beat and movement into different songs, not a straight up womp from start to finish with little in between like skrillex. a good dj like Bassnectar can do this successfully. He's the only guy i've seen do it as effectively as a jamband.
