Just watched the series on Netflix, good shit. Probably will watch it all through again. But hey, what's with all the incest stuff? Recurring theme there.. maebe and george michael, buster loves his mom, rita is retarded cause her parents were related, lindsay finds out she's not related and comes on to michael/GOB comes onto her..maybe there are more

any ideas?

Arrested Development is a great show. I wish they were still making new episodes, but I guess one of the reasons that it got cancelled is because the writer has a weird sense of humor, and a lot of the viewers didn't think the ongoing incest theme was funny.

yeah it pretty much continues throughout the whole series. Pretty hilarious. Buster and his mom, and then George Michael and his cousin.

soo well written. like 10 episodes before buster gets his hand bitten off they start setting up for it. excellent show. Tobias will always be my favorite

the first couple episodes of each season are absolutely genius. but then as the season progresses the jokes just get soooo far fetched I found. like seriously, gob releases a seal into the ocean and then buster gets his hand bitten off by it. little out there.

Maebe she is his cousin, maybe she is not. So many stupid little word plays, it is genius.
AD is one the most re-watchable shows, you catch new little things every time you watch.
Hopefully the movie rears its' head while it is still somewhat relevant to pop culture.

it's worth it to watch it over and over again, even after you've rewatched it a few times. i've probably made it through the whole series 7-10 times (and watched some episodes many more times than that) and i still catch new things each time.

^ Yes. I did a little internet search but didn't find much.

Here is my take.
The premise of the show is inherently incestuous:
Family business.
Entire family lives with each other.
And I think it the point in which the incest theme really kicked off was when Maybe kissed George Micheal. I would guess the writers realized how this theme could be extended to other characters as well. Or maybe they had it planned the entire time. Incest was pretty much untouched territory in television at the time, but the characters on the show allow the writers to portray incest in such a hilarious way. IDK. This might be BS. You asked a good question.

Either way, this was the funniest show on television and I still cannot believe it got cancelled. I'm praying the movie rumors are true. I'm actually going to watch a few episodes on netflix right now...

Well, they did cop out on the actual incest thing at the end of the third season, (much like the american remake of the fictional "Les Cousins Dangerux" or Dangerous Cousins) By explaining that they aren't actually related.
Arrested Development hints strongly at this when George Michael hears from Gangy that Maebe is a testube baby. That never gets cleared up, if it was a donor sperm or egg combo that would tell George Michael if he actually is not biologically related to his cousin. Also we never  know exactly why they had to have a test tube baby; we can only assume it is Tobias' lack of interest in making babies.

But when is all said and done, you find out that Lindsey is adopted, which makes George Micheal and Maebe not blood related. So really they didn't cross as many lines, they just lead us to believe it. It is still messed up , and hilarious at the same time.

Arrested Development is just such a great show, my boyfriend has all the seasons at his house and we tend to watch about three episodes at a time, I just love it.
I think it's one of the few legitimately funny shows.

I love arrested development.

But you guys keep talking about the incest theme between George Michael and Mabye. I'm almost 90% sure that they found out that Mabye wasn't actually George Michael's cousin, which just makes the "incest theme" funnier. Regardless, fantastic show.

she is nellie, she was adopted. she tries to jump on michael's knob when he finds out, and he denies her (good self control? or idiot? opinions?) and GOB tries to hit on her but she denies him

well she is but her mom lindsay is adopted so she's not blood related at all to george michael really. but michael tells him she shouldnt nail her etc in the last episode cause itd be weird and theyre bound to break up or whatever and then he's lost a family member or something along those lines "family comes first" blah blah blah

but to the people downplaying it on account of lindsay not being related, that doesnt make it an incestuous joke/story. and there are even way more incestuous jokes/happenings than the ones i listed in the OP

plus shit like the fact that's there George senior, george junior (GOB), michael, and george michael. just so much family weirdness. maybe that's all there is to it. idk
