Trevor is not saying that your points are invalid. yeah they are all good points, this 50mm will probably perform better than some of the other Nikkor 50's. I think his original point on all of this was that Nikon could have put the energy they put into this 50mm into something that is a more pressing need than making a 4th 50mm lens, and that is what he would have preferred.

Oh please for love of anything, learn to fucking read. When I said auto focus, I meant auto focus in general, not Af-A. I understand how that could be a very common mistake. Just for your peace of mind, I do use "dynamic modessssss." I shoot using af-c with my ae/af button turned into an af-l only.

I guess someone who gargles nikon as hard as you are right now, could only be expected to criticize my for my shooting technique, incorrectly at that.

this lens was made for bodies with internal AF. nothing special but good for guys with lower-models.

Haha the D5R looks goofy, the D800 concept looks plausible, I might have some trust issues with a grip like that though ha..

both of those links posted by COLE are concept designs, not associated with Nikon. There is no way Nikon would ever put that into pro level cameras. People are just getting bored waiting for a new release.

I can tell that the D5 isn't real, because pro photographers like holding big, blocky cameras in their hands. It makes them feel important. Doing that would be like nikon shooting itself in the foot, hahaha.

I am excited and waiting for it too... unfortunately, I'm thinking that we will have to wait till august at the earliest, perhaps longer because of the Japan disaster.

It's ok though - I would rather they take their time and make it banger than half ass anything to get it done, because we will have to wait another 4 years for the next big iteration.

yeah i'm kind of expecting it to be around then because i think one of their factories was damaged. but i'm willing to wait, it will come soon enough hopefully aha and it gives me more time to save up anyways

Although I agree with some of your posts in this thread and forum, are you serious? You have to be one of the least pleasant and most pessimistic people on this website. I don't have a very high post count, but I have spent a fair bit of time browsing the forums over the years and have noticed a definite pattern in your posting. Are you like this in real life? Do you walk around with a fucking rain cloud over your head starting pointless arguements with people for the hell of it? Yes, we can see that you've done your research on the technical aspects of photography, but you don't need to have such a condescending tone in the vast majority of your replies - you come off as a complete ass. I respect that you have an opinion (albeit a strong one,) but you should do us all a favour and lighten up a little bit...Here's an idea! How about stepping back from the photography forums and actually get out shooting more? Maybe it'll chear you up for once.

If you dont need a fast AF, then dont buy the lens dude... Nobody is forcing you to buy it. If Nikon users want a cheaper lens w/ slower AF, then they can buy it used. Should Nikon not advance their technology because there is still a market for people who want the older lens? Of course not.

And your argument about the 39 or whatever AF points is absurd. As you said, you dont shoot sports. Great, thats fine with me. But there is a reason that there are 39 points. If you know how to properly use the AF system, they can be very useful. Maybe not at the same time, but they will surely be useful. My D200 has nowhere close to 39 points, but I can assure you that when I shoot sports, I would really appreciate them. Trust me, having extra AF points in your sensor will really help you improve focus accuracy, which for some people is a big deal (soccer moms all the way to pro photogs).

My point is that even though this lens isnt for you, there is a market for it. I for one wish my 50 f/1.8 has a silent motor in it because it is loud as hell, and during quiet events it really is obnoxious. Its one of the main reasons I love my 17-55 f/2.8, which is a great midrange zoom lens that you said Nikon is lacking. Sure, it is expensive, but I got it refurbished on ebay from a certified Nikon dealer for cheaper than I could have gotten the Cannon new. I guess I'm saying that the deals are there if you look for them. PS sorry for my shit grammer/spelling... It was cinco de mayo tn where i am and i have had a bit to drink. late night NS ftw

You guys are all looking at this dude's focus point comment way too in depth. It's not really relevant but I need to back him up. I use AF the same was as the dude described (center single point, AF-C, AF-ON enabled) for most situations including shooting skiing. For portraits I still only use the middle one and AF-S, or manual focus. It's just a preference that works for me most reliably and without having to mess around with settings, zones, or guess what the camera is going to decide to focus on. Anyway it's not really to the discussion about this lens so give it a rest. This whole thread is silly anyway. Shoot whatever you like, no-one cares what you use to make your pictures.

Yea, I might move that single point around a little bit, but that's pretty much how I do it too.

If you know what works for you, and you can use that technique to produce the images you want, then it doesn't really matter. Unless it's out of focus, I don't think anyone really considers what focus method you use when they are looking at your photo.
