What Mac do you run FCP on, and how do you like it?

I haven't done any real filming/editing since high school, but have decided to get back into it a little, on somewhat of a budget. I am picking up a GoPro from work to use. (I know it isn't really great, but for the Proform price, it is my best bet to have fun getting HD footage, as well as POV footage all in one.)

This also falls around a time where my laptop is dying and I have been thinking about replacing it anyway. I want to edit with FCP, so I am trying to decide what my new computer choice should be. I am tossing around the ideas of different Macbook Pros or iMacs. I am searching around on the internet trying to decide what specs I would be happy with, without spending a million bucks on a Mac Pro. I want to still balance performance with budget. I know there are minimum requirements, but I know things can vary. I come here asking, what are your current computer specs? and how well does it work/not work for you when trying to take advantage of what FCP can offer?

get a hackintosh. seriously. I'm running a Intel i7 960 3.2 gHz Quad Core with 8GB Ram, a 1TB HDD, and a HD Radeon 5770 GPU (same as a mac pros) for right around a grand. You could save more money by buying a cheaper processor and overclocking it (I opted not to). But my system is wicked stable from what i've tested it so far, and it is much faster than what I used to work on (2.2gHz core 2 duo, 3gb ram Macbook with integrated graphics)

If you want bang for your buck, go iMac. its gonna be much more powerful than any macbook, but cheaper than any of the mac pros. but of course if you wanna be baller get a mac pro for 2,500 and up.

this... if you're on a budget and need portable, get the upgraded 13" MBP for $1500. I just got it and its great

i7 2.7 ghz
4 gb ram
500 gb hard drive

It runs FCP great!

yea you could probably install it then. Look up tonymacx86 and read through their forums/downloads/faq's and learn how its done, then ask yourself if you want to try it

Not really, they have installation guides on the website that are super easy to follow and walk you through what you have to do

you can search through the forums to find if your specific parts have been "hacked" before, it makes it a lot easier. I've learned a ton about computers through doing this, I highly recommend it.
