its perfectly right, except you need to tilt that + 45° and make it into a x

6/2(2+1)
parentheses go first, and you do realize that 3(3) is the same as 3*3 or 3x3 ?

6/2(3)
now from left to right since we have a division and a multiplication which both rank equally in the order of operations....

3(3) = 3*3 = 3x3 = 9

The real test is if you can make this:

(tanx)(sinx)/(tanx)+(sinx) = (tanx)(sinx)/(tanx)(sinx)

become:

(sinx)/(1+tanx) = (sinx)/(1+tanx)

honestly the people who are saying its flawed because there is no multiplication symbol obviously haven't even taken high school math. after the brackets are simplified (1+2) = (3) THE BRACKETS STAY THERE. then you simplify 6/2 which = 3 and then 3(3) (which is the same thing as 3 X 3) = 9

In PEDMAS or BEDMAS whatever you call it, when you come across BOTH multiplication and division  or addition and subtraction in an equation you do the operations in order from LEFT to RIGHT.

So technically the equation could be

PEMDAS,

PEMDSA,

PEDMSA, etc. you catch my drift.

What you're saying is essentially that you would solve the equation 2-3+4 as 2-7 = -5, where in reality the answer is -1+4 = 3.

You're wrong, you fucked up the basic theory behind order of operations.

Source: currently at 100% in my math course.

anybody who thinks it's 1 shouldn't even bother taking the SAT's.

Pemdas could be written as pedmas or pedmsa it is just writen like that to sound better.

If it was 5-3+2 it would be 4 not 0.

6/2(2+1)

(6/2)3

(3)(3) = 9

This problem is not ambiguous in any way.

Order of operations - priority
1) Parenthesis
2) Multiplication / Division WORKING LEFT TO RIGHT
3) Addition / Subtraction WORKING LEFT TO RIGHT

Problem: 6/2(1+2)

Step one: 6/2*3

Step two: 3*3 [WORKING LEFT TO RIGHT]

Step three: 9

Is there still anyone who does not understand this?

people are just getting confused about the implicit '*' before the parentheses. if you put that in then things will become immediately clear.

use a graphing/scientific calculator for gods sake if you can't just look at it and see the answer.

I am a complete idiot when it comes to math, I have 62 in math 11, but could the question not be written like it is above? because in that case the answer is 1.
