European Skiers! I Need Your Help

Hey Europeans! I will be studying abroad in Luxembourg next semester August-late December. I obviously won't be able to bring my skis but i want to take advantage of some of the best skiing in the world.

My question is, is there anyone that would be willing to meet up somewhere (I am very open to where in Europe I would ski and have long weekends) that knows the terrain and would want to shred with me/lend me a pair of skis for a day or two? I would gladly pay for your ticket or buy you a drink at the pub.

+k for any helpful responses or help (Where I should ski at that time of year, if/where you can rent good pow skis, etc).

BTW I'm 20 years old if that matters at all

not hating.. maybe he does not want to pay the fee for extra bagage or possibly will not be able to carry them around for some reason? just guessing

Yeah pretty much. I'm only planning on going for a few weekends anyways, so paying to fly my chronics all the way out there doesn't seem worth it.

Renting skis is probably cheaper than buying your European buddy a thank you lift ticket. ;) Prices for decent skis are between 20 and 30€/day in most resorts, with discounts kicking in from day 3 on. Just so you know. :)

some airlines dont charge you when u are traveling with sporting equipment.. unless they send them in the fragile place.

the time i traveled with skis they didnt charge me extra because its a sport related thing and it didnt need to go with the fragile stuff. But the time i took my surf board they did charge me because it did go in the fragile place...

you should give indoor skiing a try! belgium and holland have a ton of indoor parks and they're not so far away from Luxembourg !

when are you gonna be there?

i've got a car and plan on going skiing quite often the coming year and luxembourg happens to be on the road from belgium -> alps ....

also, i've got a handful of skis you can borrow for free :)

that would be awesome. Ill be there from Mid-August until around December 20th or so. Not sure how early Europe's ski season starts but I'm guessing it wont be too bad

yeah, you can definately shred the alps before december, + you can also come shred indoor slopes at the end of summer if you want, if you're there, pm me and i'll see if we can work something out ...

Usually starts I'n November. Europe hasn't had it good around Christmas time the past 3years and don't expect too much from the parks alot don't have enough snow for too many kickers

I'd say if possible, take your own boots. Skis are easy to rent and generally pretty good quality stuff.

You're pretty far from the Alps, but if I recall, there is a direct train to Zurich, and then it's a further 1-4 hours to the resorts in CH. You can also route through Frankfurt and Munich and be in Austria in 6 hours or so.

December is on the early side for the Alps, but there are a couple of decent snowfalls, not enough to get absolutely everything open and running. Still, the upper elevations are a safe bet. I personally like the Innsbruck area, it's got everything, not just skiing. The old town is compact and historic, there's an Xmas market, and easy public transport to the slopes, and a university.

While you're at it, don't forget to attend Oktoberfest, and you're really close to German wine country (the Mosel).

Oktoberfest is definitely on my to-do list. A buddy and I are already figuring it all out.
