Why does Squaw Valley's Park suck every year?

So here we are closing down another year in Tahoe and another year the Squaw Park sucks balls. They invited Redbull to come in and build a Super Park for there riders and close it off to the public. Why can't Squaw build there own Super Park for people who actually ride at Squaw or Tahoe for that matter. Squaw built the very first Super Park way back in the day. So I ask why every year with out fail they continue to underachieve in building a quality park?

maybe the manager doesn't see a reason for it. He/She may think that spending money on a park will lose them money. If this is the case, get some of your fellow park rats together and write letters to the director and tell him why it would be a good idea.

i am not speaking from experience but from what I have seen isnt squaw more of like a powder/ terrain mtn? Again i may be wrong but this is what I have seen. And yah if it the park isnt good email the manager and give him/her your thoughts in a respectful and nice way and dont just yell at him because then he or she wont want to help you at all.

squaws park sucks THIS year, not last year or any year before that. in fact it used to be my favorite terrain park on the planet. however this year the new management decided to fuck everything up and make everything baby features and all jumps under 35 ft. this is not the park crew's fault, it is the management's. i complained about this every time squaw valley posted something on facebook and got banned from their page as a result.

I just finished watching Hot Dog, and I could really care less about the park after seeing all the sick terrain. I guess I could see why it's annoying, but aren't there any other good mountains in the area?

Damn. I never made it to Squaw but the years prior to this season they always had a bangin' park. Luckily you have Alpine right next to Squaw. Solution: go to Alpine or Northstar.

does nobody understand the fact that resorts lose money staying open later because only passholders go up? snow depth often has nothing to do with a resort closing, money does.

Squaw's park has never sucked in the past years. This year the park manager of squaw moved to alpine.

Squaw is opening the sickest superpipe on the planet tomorrow for a week. If Squaw had a sick park, there would be no reason to ever leave.. Maybe this is why we can't get some decent jumps built. But Alpine is right next door, and their jump line is super fun, big, and in the sun

to all those kids saying "why don't u just ski the mountain" or "why don't u go to N*", ill lay it down like this. Northstar is closed. Squaw sucks to ski cause it's icy as shit most of the day. In the past, squaw has had a pretty fun park, but i went there today and absolutely hated it. Jumps are so damn small, rails are shit, everything is horrible. Then I went to boreal, which was much better, but the jumps are a little sketchy/not super good as of now. It's really a bummer squaw isn't gonna have a a dope park up. I was looking forward to it.

squaw has arguably the best terrain in Tahoe - they don't need to spend a ton of time and money to compete with the other nearby mountains who dedicate a ton of time and money to the parks.

To be honest, MOST mountains have scaled back on their building of "super parks" because of the number of people that actually hit it. I'm going to use Mount Snow for my example because it's the easiest for me to describe. Nitro is a super long park run with small to medium features for what I believe is a mile long trail, it gets a lot of attention on a regular basis, and is hit by everyone, where as Inferno (their XL park) features huge features, but not a lot of them, just a couple here and there, in fact it looks quite similar to a slopestyle setup for most of the year (basically one or two lines for a short distance). The number of people that hit Nitro is way more massive than the few people who actually go through and hit everything in Inferno. So why would a mountain and park crew spend a lof of money and time making a super sick "super park" for only a handful or people when they could make a smaller, way more creative park that the majority of people will use.

Back in the day, there were more public super parks because park skiing and snowboarding wasn't as popular for the masses, so pretty much everyone who actually rode the park would be able to hit those features safely, where as now, people go out, buy their first pair of skis and take their first runs in the park. And, they would go hit those super parks, and would get hurt because they don't know what they're doing.

So, basically it comes down to a "supply and demand" kind of effect, and also insurance and safety have a play in it too. I don't know for a fact that this is why Squaw doesn't make a super park, but it's my best guess (not too mention, it's Squaw...I've never really thought of going to Squaw to ski park....)

I live in Vail with access to two of the best terrain parks in NA (Vail is ok and BC is pretty damn good as well). What we don't have is KT22, the palisades, tram face, fingers, broken arrow chair, etc. I'd much rather have that than a good park. Not to mention the MONSTER storms you guys regularly get. Ps, it gets icy for long stretches at all mtns.

This is correct, but with ksl purchasing squaw they want to cut the number of park crew. Northstar has 40 guys give or take, Squaw has 10. its really sad.

Solutions:

a.) get drunk at High Camp
b.) straightline Shirley
c.) the middle and last jump in the mainline are pretty good
d.) go to Alpine, their jumps are insane good.
e.) get rad on the Palisades
f.) ski the superpipe, its dope

haha awesome, my thoughts exactly. ski some groomers in the morning when it is still firm, hit the park up when it softens up, hike up palisades/granite, laps on KT, then drinks in the sun. can't hate on squaw.. although I agree, the park could use some improvements

I've thrown about a thousand 3's in Squaw's park in the last week. I'd rather be skiing a OK park with a chair instead of hiking some BC jump. It's MAY !!! Just be happy someone has a park open.

Sqauw is blowing it to the max with the park.  worst jumps Ive ridden in years.

I must say today at Boreal was awesome.  They are killing it and have an awesome park.
