As some of you may know, I work for a higher end german car dealership where the money is fairly good. Some of the faster techs make 110k a year but the average is roughly 60-70k a year at my dealership. I am at a point in my life now where i need to make a choice if i should try to reach a goal of mine that has been in place for roughly 10 years to become a Ferrari tech. The downside of this goal is that i will have to leave my city to a larger market and step into a car brand that is known for shit labour times ( how mechanics get paid) and incredible high standards of workmanship. I have dealt with ferrari briefly with past experience but only for minor things such as services and helping another tech remove an exhaust system. I am used to dealing with mid/rear engine cars so that wont be a huge shock to me but i feel as if almost every other aspect of the job will be a major change in lifestyle and payscale. Another upside with working for the Ferrari dealership I am thinking of is that they have a raceteam that I may be able to sneak in with and travel the country with them in their racing series.
I currently have around 10k worth of tools, and if i make the jump to ferrari will most likely end up having to spend another 10k in tools as well. I have contacted the service manager of the dealership I am thinking of working for in order to get this all in motion but i can back out at any time.
