Rail made out of old skiis

ive got like 5 pairs of old skiis and a couple boards, i was wondering if you flip them over if the bases are grindable? or would you dig into them and hook an edge? if its possible ill try it so has anyone else done this before?

pvc would still be easier most likely and its pretty cheap imo

It would be 100x easier to use pvc and it would cost about 5 bucks. Old skis wouldn't work well at all and they would be a pain in the ass to make into a hitable rail

for the bike, it'd probably be better if you ut two skis on each and. 1 seems like it'd be easy to flip.

i feel a rail would be extremely small made outta skis unless they're one after another but that could be a bit difficult

dude skis for rails works super good, but the best is when you gots some old straight sticks then the sides anrt wavey and they are super long

use an angle grinder to round off the old ski's edges, otherwise you'll have a super sketchy setup and you'd basically be grinding razor blades....
with a big angle grinder you could even grind away the entire edge if you want to ....

i made a rail out of some old skis before. it actually works pretty well. you just have to make sure the screws don't stick out at all or else theyll rip apart your edges

mounting them to the bike would be easy! just screw a 2x4 to the ski then drill a hole for the fork scewer, like a wheel

This is really what it comes down too. It just simply won't be fun. Best case scenario your skis are 6 feet long, and that's short as fuck for a rail.

well my plan was to make a flat down out of them so go from one ski onto the next one so in total itd be like 10 feet at least

The flat down sounds like a good idea, it'll be plenty long enough for a summer setup. I'd definitely grind the edges, or take a heavy file and round the shit out of them at the very least.

Post pics/video so we know how it turns out, I'm curious.

Just sprayed neighbor's old bike, got some red oak and bolts, and made the thing. Works pretty well, trying to make a system so it'll work on the lifts.

Anyway, I used a girl's bike to protect my nuts. I later added more supports by the front of the back board, it was wiggling a bit. Now it carves awesomely.

Mount it in your closet on its side so you can hang clothes from it with clothes hangers. Like just replace the round bar with the ski. That could be kinda cool.

I have built some. Don't bother. They are slow and hurt to fall on. PVC is easier and smoother and can be longer.
