I just got Vegas 10, love it so far, complicated enough to keep you busy and allow for you to mix it up, with out blowing your mind on difficult tools.

Lightworks beta is on par with CS5, far better than Vegas, and it's FREE.

vegas blows. you can torrent premiere and idk about lightworks, I went on their site a while ago and it looked decent.

Never heard of lightworks before but its open source thats badass. To bad it doesn't support Panasonic .mts files yet..

Did you look at the site? It's an advanced, open source NLE. It even supports RED and 3d workflow. Pretty nifty for being free.

so there are a few answers on here, but I'm gunna film this weekend with a gopro that isn't mine and we basically just need to do some simple editing, maybe put some text and music over the video, which would be the best software to do this, and preferably it is free and i can download it on my computer cause we have to do this soon.  Thanks! +k for good response

Just wondering your opinion, what blows about vegas? I have vegas pro 10 and have yet to found something that bothers me about it. it supports advanced codecs and has a good workflow.
