Sup Guys,
I'm heading to costa rica tomorrow and have probably landed the worst flights ever (16hours going, 21 coming back. The trip should take 6...) Anyway I couldnt find the exact book thread i was looking for so I'm looking for new suggestion.
I'm into sci-fi and action books, but i am open to any suggestions. I've most recently read the Millennium Triology (The girl who kick the hornets nest and cie...) and the two first novels from the Enders Series (Ender's game and Speaker of the Dead) and love all of them.

Brief description with book title appreciated

I reccommend Kurt Vonnegut if you like Sci-fi-ish stuff. Slaughterhouse 5 and Cat's Cradle are both excellent books, and they're pretty easy reads too.

if your going kurt vonnegut, you have to go with breakfast of champions. it is the most rediculous book ever writen.

if you like kurt vonnegut, i also strongly recommend chuck palahniuk, every book by him is amazing. their funny, full of genius philosophies, and writen is such ways you can't put them down.

o yeah, and the only scifi books i've read and liked are the major classic. so you probably have already read these. but if not, pick one of them up.

1984- orwell

brave new world- huxley

fahrenheit 451- bradbury

and of course

hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy

This is a pretty good list of the classics. Read these. 1984 is really good.

Also Chuck Palahniuk sucks ass, his writing style is very striped down and harsh. His books also have very heavy homosexual undertones which make the book very awkward. Fight Club was a good movie because of the screen play.

Also finish the 4 books in the Ender series, they are pretty good but get really weird towards the end.

I’m not going to argue, mainly because it’s a completely opinionated topic. but I do want to know where you get these heavy homosexual undertones from? like what book are you referring to? I can think of a couple small scenes in some of his books, but those were meant to be funny, not awkward.

Also yes his writing style is stripped down, but it is in no way more stripped down then kurt vonnegut is. They both are straight to the point and fill up their pages with philosophies, jokes, and actions, instead of pages upon pages of imagery, which I personally enjoy.

Ya I agree it is opinion, so the following is opinion, internet opinion, so read it in the tone of a friend who is arguing with you for just the sake of it.

But comparing him to Vonnegut makes my stomach hurt.

I read fight club not knowing that Chuck was gay. Literally the only thing that he describes with more than a sentence is a man creating a massive penis in the sand. (this scene was excluded from the movie). The entire "fight club" is a euphemism for gay men bath houses, which he has admitted, and then denied. When he wrote the book I am pretty sure he was in the closet because it was pretty transparent without being overt. Every female character is disgusting, and every male character is a god. After reading the first chapter I thought to myself "this guy is gay" googled it and sure enough.

The movie on the other hand was awesome, they got rid of all the crap and made every scene work on two levels in a masterful way. Also David Fincher is the man.

Vonnegut is stripped down in a very necessary way, not in a forced way. He describes and explains situations just enough and uses a rambling kind of stark humor that works really well. Chuck tries to emulate but it is just not right and leaves you wondering what is actually happening. That is opinion, but an opinion shared by many.

So to each his own, but it drives me crazy when people say that love palahniuk or fucking Dan Brown. Jesus Dan brown is terrible.

haha I completely forgot about the sand penis. I don’t get how you didn’t think the book was amazing though. It was written from the perspective of a schizophrenic. His style becomes more ADD and crazy throughout the story, showing the charector going more and more insane.

 Even though you didn’t like that one, you should really give him another chance and try some of his other books. I agree, there are a good number of his books that are complete shit, where he tries to be creative if it just fails miserably, but some of his books are just genius. Try reading survivor, choke, lullaby, or rant. All of them have me stopping every five minutes asking,” Where the fuck does this guy come up with this shit”

Oh yeah, and even though you don’t like his writing, you can’t deny his style is very similar to Kurt Vonnegut. like i said before, both of their styles ignore the annoying abunduce of imagry used by most authors, and just get to the point with out of this world jokes, philosiphies, and stories.

Slaughterhouse 5 is absolute trash. I can appreciate good literature but that book is completely atrocious.

They get fucking weird, in the middle of the fourth book I finally just said to myself, "What the fuck are these books about?" They do get better though, but if you don't really concentrate on every detail you can miss some important shit.

Great suggestions. I was going to say 1984 also.

But also maybe look into a book called "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It's an awesome book about a father and son in a post-apocalyptic world. Definitely up there in my list of favorites.
