What is the best way to attatch pvc to wood

in the past, i have attached pvc to wood by drilling a hole through the top of the pipe, then through the bottom, and putting the screw through the top hole, then drilling the screw through the bottom of the pvc,and into the wood. alot of the time the pipes dont have enough support, and fall off.
any better ideas?

drill up thru the wood from the bottom

You can also try drilling in feom an angle.
