Fair Judging? E'dollo&BDOG

It may be just me, but judging in slope or big air runs should be a little more fair like noticing the insane and ill tricks that e'dollo and BDOG do. They don't get enough credit in comps for the shit they throw.

Sure their tricks are original, but I find their style to be pretty sloppy if you ask me. Still fun to watch though.

alright, had to throw in...

first of all, my opinion is coming from the fact that i have been judging high level events last several seasons (euro open, playstreets, etc...) and also worked with edollo, b dog, and t seaton in tignes...

that being said...  what they did in tignes was so incredible for the sport!!!  henrik slayed that shitty course (his bio 9 was way tooo ill) and i dont even want to mention how phil dismantled that course, each feature at a time..(just watch the new b&e x games part over and over again)  all the riders were showin him props for the lazy 1 and even the judges admitted that it was the best jump from the top jump.

judging is in a particular stale mate at the moment about how much of the score is influenced by the style vs. tech of the trick.  however, e'dollo's bio blunts are insanely harder than the tech - hucked (and muted) dubs we have by the usual robots (ie.... russ, bobby, elais,  andreas, etc...)

the feeling the whole day during the slope finals was soooo chilled and relaxed and that is how phil roles...  and we are lucky for that!!!!    knowing them, they will always continue to ride the way they want to ride and not what dictates the win (that is why they are never gloatin over any bad decision) they are keepin it real and doing it for their love and passion... very admirable for guys so young!!!! the judges will keep on the way they have to, but riders like these two will keep changing the sport!!!!

just my opinion, anyways...

what makes their style sloppy?

is it phils tails press's? henriks blunts? or the fact that they both stomp the fuck out of everything they land.

you cant say B-dog gets scored unfairly when he makes x finals every year without dubs and even comes 4th or where ever he did at Euro x with a fucking 180 in his run over russ' right side dub.
I also think that Phill could put down more tech in his rail section, he has the ability to stand out way above anyone else, but he never really does....

i've indulged in the b&e kool-aid quite a bit, but i still recognize the fact that phil often lands back seat, one leg heavy, or too far forward. his most recent comp runs have had at least one or two less than perfect landings. granted, that's at least partially because he takes so damn deep. phil's style is dope as fuck, but his landings could be, and probably are, marked down at times. shit, now that i think on it, im pretty sure phil has to do a bit of arm flapping to get the lazy 1 back on axis. tight as that shit was, you don't see a lot of podium slope runs featuring waving arms. didn't mean for that to come off as hating, or nit-picky, but we are talking about judged comps that are all about nit-picking when the field is so close in talent. also, to further beat said horse, the bottomline is that tech will always be valued above style as it's inherently quantifiable, whereas style isn't. the plot is thickened by the fact that the very nature of "tech" is amorphous and constantly evolving. unfortunately, many of their tricks are pretty damn unique, making it difficult to argue that one trick is technically superior to another. the other bottomline is that a slope contest is not the right place to look for cutting edge style and creativity...we all know what the slope game is about, and if you aren't down with tramps, water ramps, and pushing your ability to spin and flip more than the next guy, get the fuck out like so many others have done. props to phil and henrik for approaching slope comps with a seemingly different agenda and priority than most everyone else--and STILL being pretty damn succesful.

No, they get the credit they deserve. To score well in comps you need to throw doubles and shit, Casabon doesn't. They shouldn't get scored higher just because they're of who they are.

you pretty much said exactly what i feel. bio 14s where you only go off axis for the last 540 and grab blunt the whole damn time are way harder than hucked mute 12s. hell, i think that landing a super smooth switch cork 9 truckdriver is probably harder than a dub 12...

but then also, there is the style part. Van Valin said something about "look at Andreas ski, he looks like a robot on everything he does", and meant it in a good way. The last thing any skier should look like is a robot.

BDOG and E'dollo are pushing the sport to the next level IMO, double, triples and quadruples have already been realized but show me somethings like the run of BDOG at 3:55 to 4:35..

This is what i want to see, some stylish tricks that i never seen before !

so... I didn't read anything in this thread... barely even read the op... but I will throw down what has been bugging me for a while here on the old NS.

No matter the style or judging, people are either bitching "so and so doesn't deserve the spot, he's washed up" or "he isn't represented enough by the judges and is getting screwed".

For the sake of the topic at hand I'll stick with E'dollo and B'Dog... They constantly make the finals and don't get last place based on their skiing. If they make the finals at the biggest competitions in skiing time after time and place mid pack (B'Dog especially) for their style alone, they ARE being judged fairly. The fact that B'Dog makes it mid pack in the finals time after time for not throwing one double just shows that the judges are paying attention to what he is doing. There's a whole field of hungry skiers trying to get where he is, and he's sitting very comfortably in his position doing what he chooses to do, and gets rewarded very well for his efforts.



The day you guys understand what competition is about, the less angst you will have and spread to the rest of the world.

Judges should give them more points because they do tricks that no one else can do and with style... i would like to see bobby brown throw nollie hardway 2 onto a handrail. Everyone can double and already a lot of people can triple, How many people can layout on a blunt tindy like hendrik?

90% of the dubs thrown at x-games were forward with mute or switch with japan.

thats kinda like saying that nascar should be based on what cars look coolest, its a personal preference. i love bdog and edollo, personally i think theyre the best skiers out there right now, but thats not what competitions are about. comps are about throwing tech tricks and going big, end of story. its great that theyre innovative and pushing skiing in different ways, but you cant judge a competition based off something so inconsistent.

i guess what im trying to say is that style is subjective, and just because one person thinks trick a is better looking than trick b doesnt make it so. you need a concrete way to judge a performance, hence bigger, more tech tricks getting higher scores.

not at sll. skiing is judged, nascar is not. with judges, the way things look should be a huge part. if not, we could just have a chart of what tricks are worth how much depending on if they are landed, bobbled, crashed.
