Canon 50mm f/1.4 vs f/1.8

i have been wanted to get a prime 50mm canon lens to film with that would be good for low light situations. would the is the f/1.4 really that much better and worth it for almost an extra $400 over the f/1.8. i do alot of filming but i haven't used a lens with such a low f stop and im wondering which would be best for low light filming and for my wallet

2. the 1.4 is better than the 1.8 in every aspect except it's costly.

and if you are only looking at Canon then its mostly a build quality improvement, the optics are not drastically better

I would recomend looking at Nikon nifty 50s + adapter for a cheaper 1.4

I just bought a pentax-m SMC 50mm f1.4 off ebay for about $150 which is a bit high but its still way cheaper than the canon 50 1.4. I still haven't gotten it in the mail yet, but from everything I've read in reviews and on ns it blows the canon out of the water.

You could definitely get the lens and adapter ring for well under 200$ including shipping and maybe even under $150.

I have this, and although it handles direct sunlight really badly (looks like foggy shit), any other condition it performs really well and is very sharp around f4 - f8ish

that pentax sounds mighty good causei dont havea ton of money to spend on the dslrs i own causeim soon to get the canon xf100
