meand a few friends wanna take a trip out west next season to film a video so im start savin now but we dont know what the best resort for back country/park is (we are east coast skiers)

As someone said above, just because he's from the East coast doesn't inherently mean he's a dumbfuck. Try giving good advice in a non-condescending manner and maybe he'll listen to you, all you're doing is creating a big shitstorm in response to his question. THat being said, I think it would be smarter to stay inbounds because there's a whole slew of inbound powder in utah.

thanks man thats all i wanted to know was if u could get some sick stuff inbounds. and for u cobra commander u were making fun of me cause i dont know how to film? well im not one to be mean but the 2 videos u have up blow massive dick, so u may want to learn that before u talk shit bout videos. i will personaly say i could make a way doper video than u on the east coast with 500 foot hillshere yeah ...i said hills, thatn u could over on the west coast wiht real mountains

Dude the kid thinks you can just get a beacon, an avalung and take a course AT THE MOUNTAIN and then head into the backcountry, kid is a fucking idiot. All i said is he probably shouldnt go into the bc and then he posted videos of kids skiing park saying no man its chill. kid is not smart.

Yea honestly Utah is getting pounded right now(nvm i think this kids going next season). But still, i just got back from a trip out West and it was sick, and i never went to the true backcountry, just off piste. I know that it can still be dangerous, but the mountain i went to did Avalanche blasts and posted the conditions of its terrain, and you can always ask a mountain ambassador/patrol for advice/help. That'll be the op's best bet, in my opinion. Now all we need is a suitable mountain.

You're probably 15, maybe 16, have no idea about avalanche danger or what equipment you need, let alone afford it. Id recommend staying to inbounds, resorts. You can definitely film some sick shit at alta and snowbird, you can really build a jump but it sounds like you should stay away from that. According to such, you said you were going wherever the wind brings you and your time knows what they are doing. You never said "im not going out of bounds" which you could have said to the very first question and none of us would have freaked out.

The only reason you could have been a dumb fuck is if you were considering going into the bc with no experience. apparently this kid doesn't understand that "back country" means out of bounds. The only thing you're doing wrong is backing him up saying is cool if he goes into the BC because you don't know what youre talking about and should advice him to just go into the BC with no experience.

Fair enough. So is good to spark notes this and say that he just shouldnt do true Bc till he like lives out there or takes courses, and that for this trip he should stay inbounds, but still look for some sick terrain at like snowbird or whatever

In the East, Backcountry is interchangeable with off piste, i dont know why, even though when people say backcountry, 98% of the time they are referreing to hiking like 10 minutes off the Side of Killington and meeting up with a car on the road. Hardcore stuff man

if i went sailing and said im going out on the ocean, and meant out on the bay would i be correct?

If i went out sailing, solo, with very minimal experience, into a storm, would i be stupid?

If i went canoeing down a river a few times, and then said i could sail from CA to HI, would i be prepared?


Im trying to put this into sailing terms for you, i hope you get my drift(epic pun intended).


Ignorance itself isnt shameful, as we are all ignorant in one way or another. but being ignorant and refusing to listen to others who do have knowledge is fucking stupid.

The mountains are easily as deadly as the sea. And i would fully expect you to call me fucking retarded if i came from sailing on lake tahoe a few times a year, to expecting to cross the N. Atlantic .

You want a list of some good mountains? Try Jackson, Alta, Mammoth, Squaw, and Whistler. Also, don't bother with the backcountry if you lack experience, there is plenty to be found n bounds if you're at the right mountain.

Then take your damn trip to Alta. Those mountains I listed there are probably what you're going to get for recommendations. If you want to ski deep snow and find some gnarly terrain, I'd stray from Colorado.

I don't know where the fuck you're from but backcountry definately means the same thing on both coasts. Also even skiing off the back side of Killington is considered backcountry.

both things you said were wrong. im from the east and all the time i hear idiots referring to even glades as bac!kcountry. they misuse the term so much it has morphed into a word that means different terrain from backcountry out west. and when i went off the side of killington, it was still on the ski resorts property making it off piste, not backcountry. as someone stated before, backcountry is terrain that isnt on someones proprty. off piste (look it up) is the riding of unmarked terrain either in metween, adjacent to, or near a resorts boundaries/ trails
