a friend of mine who helps design and build some of the features there said they are having issues with the whole liablility/insurance aspect. He said they will most likely open up this year though
If you are looking for some good riding in the Lake Placid NY area you can ride Whiteface, its fairly cheap and they have terrain for everyone. Its an awesome mountain even if you can only ride it for the day. Also if you are in that area you can ride on a lot of the mountain trails as long as you dont get yelled at my forest rangers. Some have some pretty tough obstacles but its fun just to fuck off on. the website for the guy who runs the show at Whiteface is http://www.downhillmike.com/ . He also works at High Peaks Cycles in Lake Placid but if you are looking for quality bike repair/work you should go 20 minutes south of there to Leepoff Cycles in Keene Valley NY. Great bike shop and Mark (the owner) will tell you every single little trail and tell you what to ride based on your experience. He knows it all so its definitely worth it and he can tell you stuff all about Vermont too.
Sugarbush in VT also has some amazing riding but i know they still have snow so you cant ride it yet but soon it will be ready to ride. I dont know anything else about it really though
And if you look at the vertical that whiteface has comepared to the other places its so much better, whiteface has 2500 vertical where as a place lke diablo or killington have closer to 1000 feet
The lift accessed trails at whiteface are pretty gnarly, the top is very steep and raw. Highland is outrageously fun, all the trails are perfectly maintained. Bromont is an hour south of Montreal. It is awesome. Season passes are only $190 and its worth every penny.
this. Also Diablo and Killington. Also you must go to kingdom trails. That is a must. While you are there do sidewinder and then head up to burke for some DH.
the state forests in western, ma are unbelievable xc riding. wendell, dubuque, and the D.A.R. are all incredible. good match of flowy singletrack and super technical rocky rooty shit. awesome riding
