Yep. And it's not just the war thing, US is just so assed backwards about everything. You're so conservative with social programs (including education, health care, etc.), nudity, freedom of expression (despite the fact that you call yourself the land of the free) and the economy, yet you're so liberal about the one thing every other first world county is conservative about- gun laws. As far as evil goes, we just see Americans (remember, I'm talking about the country as a whole, which is represented by its government, not the individuals) as not caring about anyone but themselves and doing whatever it takes to get your their way; afterall, that is the American Dream, isn't it?

Wow... let's not even get the french debate started. Canadiens Francais have nothing to do with their country of origin anymore besides language and Catholocism, and even that has become more of a self-supporting culture rather than one inherited from France. Hell, the FRENCH look down on Quebec (I can't speak Quebecois in Europe without being laughed at by someone who finds my ''Bastard French'' amusing.

Anyways, I don't know about evil as in Hitler, but a lot of the views held by those in power down south there are most certainly ethically wrong (and I say that not as an opinion, but from the standpoint of ethical philosophy). On the other hand, the same can be said of any country... the only difference is, the States seems to be in ethical decline of late, rather than progressing. And while I agree with Jay, not all of that ''backwardsness'' as you put it is ethical, some of those things have little to do with good or evil. It's societal convention more than anything.

The kids were asked if they think the US is evil. The word wasnt brought up by the kids taking the poll, so you cant blame them for it. At the same time its easy to have alot of hate for americans as a canadian. For example - How about the huge blackout that was immidiatley announced as canadas fault without any evidence. It wasnt announced on the news when it ended out originating in ohio. Basically we are just bitter scapegoats.

Oh and some of the reason may be the whole unnesecary war destroying a country and stuff. Probably not.

Canada is no fool country. It may be so that we hate america more than we like it, but thats normal. it would be more if we wernt bordering it and we didnt have a solid trade going on. Thats why canada likes America more than most countries. Canada, for the most part, has done its own thing, but it definitely gets influenced by our neigbor, US. No one challenges Canada, I think, because of our strong oil trade, and because we dont spit in peoples face, and were peaceful. America was made from conquering, Canada was made from settling. Its true, theres actual laws about the difference between a settled country and a conquered country.

Most of us do not agree with what Bush is doing, but we can't do much about it. I don't hate on canada. hazel, what are you talking about? Canada has 'no government, no anything'? We don't enter wars, you mean the war in Iraq, because we won world war 1 and was one of the most infuential contries in WW2, two of the biggest wars. And as for the last statement, Canada influences other countries, just what we do doesn't negatively affect the countries and turn it into a big mess. skibum... before you get all high and mighty, you might want to consider the fact that, um, youre wrong. to claim that revolt is the american way, is shall we say, assanine to say the least. do i strike you as someone who doesnt know my basic american history? i try not to appear that way... if you want to categorize a 'revolt' as a bunch of guys dressed as indians chucking tea into boston harbor, then perhaps your right. when i think of revolt, i think of the french revolution.... a pair of monarchs getting marched to a the guillotine, setting in place a completely new government, and then proceeding to eliminate the principle of habeas corpus, and eliminating scores of people. when the americans (or colonists, whatever you like to call them) 'revolted' they merely removed the top level of government buerocracy. the leadership within the colonies remained the same, the style of government didnt undergo any drastic changes, in all, it was england, minus the crown.

this having been said, i think that it is evident that our nation has lasted over 200 years without being overthrown, and has had a great deal less 'revolt' than a lot of nations.

so to say that revolt is the american way, is really a pretty obtuse thing to say, dont you think? maybe you would define revolt as something that you do when your parents ground you, so on a small scale, maybe youre right, but on the international scale, and in terms of overturning a sitting government, i think it need to be defined in line with revolution...

so stop worrying about 'educating americans'... we will do just fine without you...
