I got a message from god

Yesterday i was watching a show on the science channel about the universe. It was really making me wonder if god exists.
I thought to myself, i really want to believe that there is a god but its really hard too.
So i thought damn i wish god could send me a message to show me that he exists.

An hour later i walk outside to get in my car to go get a cup of coffee.

As im walking back into my house i see something on the ground and pick it up. You know those machines that press pennies and make them says stuff? It was a penny from one of those and it had the 10 commandments pressed into it.

I feel like that was the message i asked for.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Many highly educated scientists agree that the universe works too perfectly and seamlessly to NOT be designed by something. They claim it's simply too elegant to all be coincidence.

Take that for what it's worth. (Note: I am not religious, I just find that interesting.)

that's actually kinda legit.
this hasn't happened to me, but my mom.  when her brother died, there was a full rainbow outside the hospital where he passed away.  exactly one year from the day he died, she was at a soccer tournament for my brother and there was another rainbow completely across the sky above the field.  (yeah i know, easily a coincidence, but cool nonetheless)
and again when her mother died, maybe a month after, she was just home alone with my sister. she had put her down for a nap and was feeling very sad thinking about her mom.  She asked her mother for a sign that she was at peace and that she was thinking about her in her head (she prays in her head all the time).  She then heard music from my sisters room.  My sister was sound asleep and a music box on her dresser was playing, as if someone wound it up, but no one was there.

i don't have a strong personal stance on religion at all, but i really hope people don't hate on you for this thread

When did he use a statistic? He simply said "many" which has a subjective definition.  There must be scientists out there who support a belief in intelligent design, otherwise the idea wouldn't exist.  Evolution, after all, is just a theory, and there are many other theories on how the universe came to be that are out there.

I am not going to take a side on the whole "god or no god" debate, but when people on either side act condescending because they think they are better than the supposed morons on the other side, it pisses me off.

A priori reasoning is the antithesis of science. The fact that many scientists speculate complete horse shit as if it were accepted fact means nothing.

Come to think of it, most of the crazy "science" that makes headlines isn't science at all. Just half-baked inquires; "science fiction" I believe it's called...

seems a little pretentious, don't you think? i don't mind people have beliefs, but when people say that god sent them a sign or god talked to them, that's when they're using religion to their personal agenda and is more insulting to the idea of religion than any person who has denounced his existence... don't you think? i mean he is the creator of EVERYTHING so what makes you think that you- out of the billions on earth, he decided it was important enough to place a fucking penny with the commandments on it on the floor of your suburban home?

It is actually crazy. My mom was telling me of this one family. Their daughter died in a car crash. The daughter loved butterflies. The family was very religious and prayed for a sign. So 2 years after the death of their daughter they were vacationing on some island. (idk where) But the mother of the daughter was walking down the beach and a butterfly landed on her shoulder and stayed there the whole way down the beach until it flew away. I guess it was rare for a butterfly to be on the island they were on. It may be coincidence but its still crazy.

Another weird thing that has happened is when my grandpa's mother died. My grandma woke in the middle of the night and saw my grandpa's mother. She brought this up one day when the family was around, weird as it was, my grandpa's brother's wife saw her as well. And my grandpa's father saw her. My grandpa's father had a better description. She was standing at the foot of the bed, but then she turned, went to the mirror, fixed her hair, and then left. I heard this from my grandma. I find it creepy, yet if it was true then it was a way to tell the rest of the family that she was safe. If that doesn't make sense, basically my grandpa's mother visited the wives of her son and her husband to let them know she was okay.

He made up the stupid "fact", I just mentioned that it was wrong. Originally I was too lazy to find an article but if you want one then here:

the use of "many" is misleading, making it seem like a majority or even somewhere near 50% of scientists believe in a god. My use of statistic was just poor word choice, my bad. Also, the whole argument that evolution is just a theory is extremely weak. You wouldn't use it on the theory of gravity, don't use it on the theory of evolution. Evolution has been proved far beyond reasonable doubt, the only thing that is being changed/added is the process with the new discovery of links in the evolutionary chain all the time. There is almost no debate on the truth of evolution in the scientific community, I think we can trust the people who are devoting their lives to these types of issues.

if you still believe in the story of creation, sorry but you're an ignorant religious freak, however for those who believe that the universe itself is somehow shaped/created by something, i have all respect for that, after all nobody can prove / disprove it... (yet)

i have no problem with believing in a god except

that he cant be all-knowledgable (heisenbergs u.p.), allmighty (because nothing in our universe stands over physics laws) and most importantly he cant be fair (obvious sufferings of people all over the world, while i sit here in a heated house with 3 computers and 50 other electronical devices plus enough food for 2 weeks and free education and so motherfucking on).


the only "solution" to all three is that he is somewhere outside of our universe/dimension and he is not able/willing to take action inside. nice try but why would you pray to something that is not fair and cant help you at all?


so in your case, i kinda find it hard to believe that a "good" god brings you a motherfucking penny while he could bring way more joy/happiness to so much more people.

let me explain. Easter is the catholic churches most popular time of year. Therefore there are excess prints of catholic related things. Somebody had their window open when they were driving and it flew out of the window. You found it and said " OH LAWDS JEBUS BE PRAISED!!! It's a Mirahcull!"

You then went to the internet to spread the word, but were met with skepticism and trolls. You then forgot all about jesus a few weeks later when it wasn't a holiday.

Your opinion. People like you are ignorant in the ways that you treat believers and the topic as a whole. Not everyone who believes in God is automatically deserving of being insulted and treated poorly simply because you don't agree with them.

It's one thing when people try to push their beliefs on others (something i'm completely against), but a lot of people take great comfort in knowing that when it feels like there's nothing you can do, nowhere to go and no way to get out of your situation - that there's always still one person you can talk to.

Belief and science is such an interesting topic...

You actually get "liberal" christians who believe that God is the creator and the Big Bang and Evolution etc were the mechanisms by which he made the universe and planet earth.

The main flaw, in my opinion, with both religious and scientific views is based on the fact that everything needs a cause. Who created God, he cannot be eternal that just doesn't make sense as you can't make something out of nothing. Then again The Big Bang is equally flawed as it too needs a cause, it needs something to trigger the explosion...

I cba going through all the different views and arguments it's such a complicating subject...

Personally I'm undecided on whether i believe in God or not, my rational and logical side says NO WAY but there's a small part of me that thinks "hmmmm it's possible".

I didn't believe in god until one day I prayed and asked for my girlfriend to break up with me. The next day out relationship ended. Coinsidence I think not. I don't go to church but I think there's something like a god

yeah well see here's where i'd say, there's always someone out there you can talk to, just make sure it's someone that'll talk back. that's WAY more helpful to have that physical interaction than it is to be kneeling at your bedside. and there's always something you can do but you have to stop being a pussy, have faith in others as more importantly, YOURSELF and do it yourself. good shit happens all the time (miracles) and can happen to you but it's not going to come from a big bearded man in the sky but rather what YOU do.
