Building your dream house

My family has built a few houses around my town all on lake michigan and we are going to build another right on the beach. but all the other times we built I was younger and didn't really have much say or care what happened with the house.
But now im 18 and heading off to college but will be back in summers and hopefully have this house for a while so I am asking you NS for some cool ideas, opinions, thoughts or anything about what you would do to make a dope house.

ive always been a fan of loft-like houses. like a 2nd floor with an open room that overlooks a main-floor room.

wrap around balcony, but and extra balcony in the backyard if possible.

as sad as it sounds, by the time the house is done you will be moved out and it wont even be yours really : (    just a place u visit every now and then and it wont even feel like home....

but its just not the same.  u leave, u come back, u leave again... never has the same flow of when youre there full time.

not trying to hate just lettin on that soon your strings will be cut loose and you will have a new home wherever it is that you land...

I don't know if your family likes to cook, but i hate cooking in a poorly laid out kitchen, so i would put some good thought into the kitchen.

it may be just because im a woman and love being in the kitchen, but a well laid out kitchen is incredibly underrated. its no fun to cook in a shitty kitchen.

My dad designs our houses too it's nice to have say into what you want for it and feels more like your house once it's done. My dads doing it right now actually so threads for some possible ideas as well.

dude i was thinking the exact same thing. fucking weird. but then it'd be a tradeoff between cushions that would get soggy yet be comfy or seats that would be waterproof but be all hard on your ass

For your guest room do what im going to do

put it in the middle of the house, no windows, one door. only one bed in the middle of the room with chains attached to the ceiling holding the bed up. white walls with red paint all over them and a little sky light window just to let in enough sun in the morning so the guests get freaked out when they wake up hungover

or, you just have normal hot tub plastic inside, and then you have really comfy removable cushions on top of that, and when you wanna use the hot tub you just get your slaves to come and take off all the cushions, then you press the button, it fills up with hot water and BAM instant pussy

Useful ideas:

geothermal heating
window positioning (maximize lighting, maximize heating in winter, and cooling during summer)
and keep these three things in mind:
water wants to run downhill
it freezes at 32 degrees
heat rises
take advantage and you can save bank on annual costs

Cool ideas:

if your right on the lake gottta have a dock
bed sunk into the floor (or hung from the cieling if space is an issue)
-desks are good for under beds, creates a workspace and you sit at desks so the bed can be lower

This is some hippy-shit but it's actually really sick and useful.  Look up hempcrete.  It's for building walls and also acts as insulation.  Only thing is that I don't know how it would hold up in a moist environment. 

Like someone else said, a loft.  I have always loved them and they're just sick

That in ground couch thing is unreal.

I have a double staircase at my house i really like. tough to explain. but a straight stair case going to the upstairs then a half oval staircase joining it in the middle from the front hallway. Its badass and we used to race up it as kids.
