Ahh yes, it's that some of the time of the year where the video section will be filled with season edits from many people, some good, some absolutely horrid. I've devised a list of tips to help some of your editing improve, if need. Most of these can also be used anywhere else, so keep a tab or something. The reason I chose SG instead of M+A for this thread is because it will get more publicity here, and the more publicity equals the less shitty edits. (In no order of importance)
-Songs are a huge part of edits, they help capture who you are and can make the edit much more enticing to watch. Stay away from songs with really fast paces and ones that have been used a lot (i.e. Coastin' - Zion I) and such.
-Choose a song before you edit. BIG TIP. Don't just throw a song in afterwards after you've put all the clips together, your edit would have been better off without music. Editing to the beat gives a better feel to it and makes it a lot more fun to watch.
-Keep it under 3 minutes. Unless your edit is filled with bangers or a webisode watching anything over three minutes is painful to watch all the way through. Short, concise, and filled with your best shots is what people love to see.
-Keep your fillers to a ratio of 1 filler to 5 ski shots MAX. If you find a bunch of cool cinematographic shots, don't use them all. You could save some of them for a cinematography reel at the end of the year, but I wouldn't recommend this unless you are serious into videography.
-Having a dedicated filmer helps a lot. Film bitch. Whatever you want to call them, I'm one myself. I know how to use my camera, have the equipment necessary, and that allows to showcase the riders ability better than if I just handed my camera over to a friend and skied for a bit.
-Get creative with your angles. Seeing edits with the same type of angles over and over again are boring. Switch it up a bit.
